brn is a Perl-based command-line tool designed to ease the task of bulk renaming a large number of files. Started as a fork of the standard perl 'rename' tool, this project has since mutated significantly and is still undergoing rapid flux.

Usage - By window titles • Search Files - In this window you can search tagged files, but you need to tag some files first. If you have tagged files already you can search through them by entering tag or tags(separate tags with a space) into box at the top and clicking the Search button. • Select File - In this window you select a file to be tagged, you can change directory with button in the top left corner, to tag a file you need to select it from the list and click Next button, or double click a file on the list. • Tag Files - Here you can assign tags to the selected file, write your tag in the box and press the Add button, your tag will appear in the list below, you can delete a tag by selecting it and clicking Remove Tag button. This is a simple application to bookmark/tag your folder/file. Filesystem will not be affected. You can add tag by directly right clicking the folder/file. For searching, approximate word matching is used. Files/folders will be sorted for required tags and the most matching will come on the top. For tagging websites, right now, you have to copy paste path. Plugin/extension for web-browsers need to be done.

Filecalibur calculates hashes of the analyzed files (using hashdeep) and stores them in text files. Using this hash files, differences or modifications of files within this collections are identified and used to modify other collections. It uses rsync to synchronize filecollections with each other. In the end Filecalibur does nothing what you would not be able to do by hand - but here you can keep track of several tousand files. If you do backups, Filcalibur ensures you that your backups are really identical.
