Have you ever wanted to add a Save as… button to a webapp? Whether you’re making an advanced WebGL-powered CAD webapp and want to save 3D object files or you just want to save plain text files in a simple Markdown text editor, saving files in the browser has always been a tricky business. Usually when you want to save a file generated with JavaScript, you have to send the data to your server and then return the data right back with a Content-disposition: attachment header. This is less than ideal for webapps that need to work offline. The W3C File API includes a FileSaver interface, which makes saving generated data as easy as saveAs(data, filename), though unfortunately it will eventually be removed from the spec. With FileSaver.js, which implements FileSaver in all modern browsers, it’s possible to generate any type of file you want right in the browser, document editors can have an instant save button that doesn’t rely on an online connection. -

Pluggable foundation blocks for building loosely coupled distributed apps. Includes implementations in Redis, Azure, AWS, RabbitMQ and in memory (for development). When building several big cloud applications we found a lack of great solutions (that's not to say there aren't solutions out there) for many key pieces to building scalable distributed applications while keeping the development experience simple. Wanted to build against abstract interfaces so that we could easily change implementations. Wanted the blocks to be dependency injection friendly. We were initially using an open-source Redis cache client but then it turned into a commercial product with high licensing costs. Not only that but there weren't any in-memory implementations so every developer was required to set up and configure Redis. We initially looked at NServiceBus (a great product) but it had high licensing costs (they have to eat too) and was not OSS friendly. -

This library is the first step of a journey that every markup file in a repository goes on before it is rendered on GitHub.com. GitHub-markup selects an underlying library to convert the raw markup to HTML. See the list of supported markup formats provided. The HTML is sanitized, aggressively removing things that could harm you and your kin—such as script tags, inline-styles, and class or id attributes. Syntax highlighting is performed on code blocks. See github/linguist for more information about syntax highlighting. The HTML is passed through other filters that add special sauce, such as emoji, task lists, named anchors, CDN caching for images, and autolinking. The resulting HTML is rendered on GitHub.com. The dependencies listed are required if you wish to run the library. You can also run script/bootstrap to fetch them all. -

Kurrier is a self-hosted, open-source workspace that brings email, calendars, contacts, and file storage into a single modern web interface while keeping your data under your control. The backup can be stored on any of the filesystems you have configured. The package can also notify you via Mail, Slack or any notification provider when something goes wrong with your backups. Feeling paranoid about backups? Don't be! You can backup your application to multiple filesystems at once. Once installed, making a backup of your files and databases is very easy. redix is a very simple key => value storage engine that speaks redis and even more simpler and flexible. redis is very simple, sometimes we abuse it, so I decided to build a pure key-value storage system that introduces the core utilities for building any data structure you want based on the key => value model that is because I think that everything could be modeled easily using that model, so I decided to not to follow redis and all of its commands, you won’t find lpush, hset, sadd, … etc you will find a new way to do the same job but more easier and flexable, i.e, the well-known hset key field value command could be replaced with set key/field value, but sometimes you need to return a specific hashmap as key => value, but you run hget key field to get the key’s value and also it could be replaced with get key/field, but how could we replace hgetall key? I will say “it is easy”, let’s make the hget command work as a prefix scanner that scan the whole database. -

A self-extracting archiving tool for Unix systems, in 100% shell script. makeself.sh is a small shell script that generates a self-extractable compressed tar archive from a directory. The resulting file appears as a shell script (many of those have a .run suffix), and can be launched as is. The archive will then uncompress itself to a temporary directory and an optional arbitrary command will be executed (for example an installation script). This is pretty similar to archives generated with WinZip Self-Extractor in the Windows world.
