Using a sequence of Open Source CAD/CAM and graphics tools, integrated through Excel macro code, "Lego Charts" extends the idea of the Excel 3-D bar chart. It allows the placement, shapes and colours of the bars to represent further dimensions to the data. The chart is presented as a photo-realistic model apparently constructed out of LEGO® [1] bricks. The downloaded package consists of an Excel template to create the charts, an extensive installation and user guide, and two fully-worked samples. Excelsi-R is an Excel add-in that allows Excel spreadsheets to harness the power of the R statistical language by connecting to a running R process. R does not need to be installed on the computer running Excel, but it does require access to an R instance running Rserve (which can be on a remote computer). It supports incorporating R plots and graphs in an Excel workbook.
