    Awesome Privacy

    Awesome Privacy

A curated list of privacy & security-focused software and services

Awesome Privacy is a curated directory of privacy-respecting alternatives to mainstream apps and services, organized across many categories like browsers, search, email, messaging, cloud storage, and operating systems. It aims to help you choose tools that reduce tracking, fingerprinting, and data collection without sacrificing usability. Each entry highlights the project’s core properties—such as open source status, end-to-end encryption, and platform availability—so you can evaluate trade-offs quickly. Because product landscapes change fast, the list emphasizes ongoing maintenance and community discussion around quality and trust. It’s useful for privacy newcomers planning a gradual migration as well as experts building a hardened toolchain. The project also surfaces learning resources and practical guidance so you can understand the broader privacy landscape, not just pick tools in isolation.

    Kubernetes Dashboard

    Kubernetes Dashboard

General-purpose web UI for Kubernetes clusters

Kubernetes Dashboard is a general purpose, web-based UI for Kubernetes clusters. It allows users to manage applications running in the cluster and troubleshoot them, as well as manage the cluster itself. To access Dashboard from your local workstation you must create a secure channel to your Kubernetes cluster. Kubeconfig Authentication method does not support external identity providers or certificate-based authentication. Metrics-Server has to be running in the cluster for the metrics and graphs to be available. Make sure that you know what you are doing before proceeding. Granting admin privileges to Dashboard's Service Account might be a security risk. In most cases after provisioning cluster using kops, kubeadm or any other popular tool, the ClusterRole cluster-admin already exists in the cluster. We can use it and create only ClusterRoleBinding for our ServiceAccount. If it does not exist then you need to create this role first and grant required privileges manually.

    dirsearch

    dirsearch

    Web path scanner

An advanced command-line tool designed to brute force directories and files in webservers, AKA web path scanner. Wordlist is a text file, each line is a path. About extensions, unlike other tools, dirsearch only replaces the %EXT% keyword with extensions from -e flag. For wordlists without %EXT% (like SecLists), -f | --force-extensions switch is required to append extensions to every word in wordlist, as well as the /. To use multiple wordlists, you can separate your wordlists with commas. Example: wordlist1.txt,wordlist2.txt. Default values for dirsearch flags can be edited in the configuration file: default.conf. The thread number (-t | --threads) reflects the number of separated brute force processes. And so the bigger the thread number is, the faster dirsearch runs. By default, the number of threads is 30, but you can increase it if you want to speed up the progress.

    fswatch

    fswatch

A cross-platform file change monitor with multiple backends

A cross-platform file change monitor with multiple backends: Apple OS X File System Events API, BSD kqueue, Solaris/Illumos File Events Notification, Linux inotify and a stat()-based backend. fswatch is a file change monitor that receives notifications when the contents of the specified files or directories are modified. fswatch implements four kinds of monitors. A monitor based on the File System Events API of Apple OS X. A monitor based on kqueue, an event notification interface introduced in FreeBSD 4.1 and supported on most BSD systems (including OS X). A monitor based on inotify, a Linux kernel subsystem that reports file system changes to applications. A monitor based on File Events Notification, a Solaris/Illumos kernel API that reports file events. A monitor based on ReadDirectoryChangesW, a Microsoft Windows API that reports changes to a directory.

    node-rate-limiter-flexible

    node-rate-limiter-flexible

Count and limit requests by key with atomic increments

rate-limiter-flexible counts and limits number of actions by key and protects from DDoS and brute force attacks at any scale. It works with Redis, process Memory, Cluster or PM2, Memcached, MongoDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL and allows to control of requests rate in single process or distributed environment. All operations in memory or distributed environments use atomic increments against race conditions. Combine limiters, block key for some duration, delay actions, manage failover with insurance options, configure smart key blocking in memory and many others. Average request takes 0.7ms in Cluster and 2.5ms in a Distributed application. See benchmarks. It provides a unified API for all limiters. Whenever your application grows, it is ready. Prepare your limiters in minutes. No matter which node package you prefer: redis or ioredis, sequelize/typeorm or knex, memcached, native driver or mongoose. It works with all of them.

    passcore

    passcore

A self-service password management tool for Active Directory

PassCore is a very simple 1-page web application written in C#, using ASP.NET Core, Material UI (React Components), and Microsoft Directory Services (Default provider). It allows users to change their Active Directory/LDAP password on their own, provided the user is not disabled. PassCore does not require any configuration, as it obtains the principal context from the current domain. I wrote this because a number of people have requested several features that the original version did not have. The original version of this tool was downloaded around 8000 times in 2.5 years. My hope is that the new version continues to be just as popular. There really is no free alternative out there (that I know of) so hopefully, this saves someone else some time and money. We recommend use the docker image and redirect the traffic to nginx.

    xxHash

    xxHash

    Extremely fast non-cryptographic hash algorithm

xxHash is an extremely fast non-cryptographic hash algorithm, working at RAM speed limit. It is proposed in four flavors (XXH32, XXH64, XXH3_64bits and XXH3_128bits). The latest variant, XXH3, offers improved performance across the board, especially on small data. It successfully completes the SMHasher test suite which evaluates collision, dispersion and randomness qualities of hash functions. Code is highly portable, and hashes are identical across all platforms (little / big endian). Performance on large data is only one part of the picture. Hashing is also very useful in constructions like hash tables and bloom filters. In these use cases, it's frequent to hash a lot of small data (starting at a few bytes). Algorithm's performance can be very different for such scenarios, since parts of the algorithm, such as initialization or finalization, become fixed cost. The impact of branch misprediction also becomes much more present.

    AmazonMSK AWS Identity Access Management

    AmazonMSK AWS Identity Access Management

Use AWS Identity and (IAM) to connect to Amazon Managed Streaming

The Amazon MSK Library for AWS Identity and Access Management enables developers to use AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) to connect to their Amazon Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (Amazon MSK) clusters. It allows JVM-based Apache Kafka clients to use AWS IAM for authentication and authorization against Amazon MSK clusters that have AWS IAM enabled as an authentication mechanism. This library provides a new Simple Authentication and Security Layer (SASL) mechanism called AWS_MSK_IAM. This new SASL mechanism can be used by Kafka clients to authenticate against Amazon MSK clusters using AWS IAM. After you've downloaded the code from GitHub, you can build it using Gradle. An uber jar containing the library and all its relocated dependencies except the kafka client and slf4j-api can also be built. At runtime, the uber jar expects to find the kafka client library and the sl4j-api library on the classpath.
