Koka is a strongly typed functional-style language with effect types and handlers. The core of Koka consists of a small set of well-studied language features, like first-class functions, a polymorphic type- and effect system, algebraic data types, and effect handlers. Each of these is composable and avoid the addition of “special” extensions by being as general as possible. Koka tracks the (side) effects of every function in its type, where pure and effectful computations are distinguished. The precise effect typing gives Koka rock-solid semantics backed by well-studied category theory, which makes Koka particularly easy to reason about for both humans and compilers. Effect handlers let you define advanced control abstractions, like exceptions, async/await, or probabilistic programs, as a user library in a typed and composable way. Perceus is an advanced compilation method for reference counting.

MUgen is an emulator generator which works in a way similar to yacc. It takes an input machine description and outputs a source file which is a fully implemented emulator of that system. This is the open-source system.

Niv is a tool designed for managing dependencies in Nix projects. It simplifies adding, updating, and removing package sources via a single nix/sources.json file, improving reproducibility and version control in Nix-based workflows. niv simplifies adding and updating dependencies in Nix projects. Nix is a very powerful tool for building code and setting up environments. niv complements it by making it easy to describe and update remote dependencies (URLs, GitHub repos, etc). It is a simple, practical alternative to Nix flakes. The add command will infer information about the package being added, when possible. This works very well for GitHub repositories. nixfmt is a code formatter for the Nix expression language, aiming to provide consistent and idiomatic formatting for Nix files. It is written in Haskell and designed to be fast, predictable, and fully automatic with zero configuration. nixfmt helps Nix developers maintain readability and code consistency across large codebases, facilitating collaboration and version control workflows.

optparse-applicative is a haskell library for parsing options on the command line, and providing a powerful applicative interface for composing them. optparse-applicative takes care of reading and validating the arguments passed to the command line, handling and reporting errors, generating a usage line, a comprehensive help screen, and enabling context-sensitive bash, zsh, and fish completions. A value of type Parser a represents a specification for a set of options, which will yield a value of type a when the command line arguments are successfully parsed. If you are familiar with parser combinator libraries like parsec, attoparsec, or the json parser aeson you will feel right at home with optparse-applicative. If not, don't worry! All you really need to learn are a few basic parsers, and how to compose them as instances of Applicative and Alternative.

relude is a safe, performant, user-friendly and lightweight Haskell standard library. The default Prelude is not perfect and doesn’t always satisfy one’s needs. At this stage, you may want to try an alternative prelude library. relude has some strong goals and principles that it sticks to. That principles define the library's decisions and might tell you more about the priorities of the library. You can be more productive with a “non-standard” standard library, and relude helps you with writing safer and more efficient code faster. Usage of partial functions can lead to unexpected bugs and runtime exceptions in pure code. The types of partial functions lie about their behaviour. And even if it is not always possible to rely only on total functions, relude strives to encourage best-practices and reduce the chances of introducing a bug.

A simple Haskell code prettifier. The goal is not to format all of the code in a file since I find that kind of tools often "get in the way". Turtle is a reimplementation of the Unix command line environment in Haskell so that you can use Haskell as a scripting language or a shell. Think of turtle as coreutils embedded within the Haskell language. The turtle library focuses on being a "better Bash" by providing a typed and light-weight shell scripting experience embedded within the Haskell language. If you have a large shell script that is difficult to maintain, consider translating it to a "turtle script" (i.e. a Haskell script using the turtle library). Among typed languages, Haskell possesses a unique combination of features that greatly assist scripting.

wikit is another wiki engine suited for small teams. It’s written in Haskell with using Yesod Web Framework. It’s cross platform and was designed to be running as a desktop service application servicing wiki articles and providing some basic capabilities in terms of searching and storing data. It’s perhaps most distinct feature is that it relies on backing Git distributed source control system. And keeps it’s articles in markdown format. Which makes it very easy to port out of the wiki and keep somewhere else if one would wish so, and vice versa, it allows to through bunch of existing documents in markdown format to be introduced into wiki and make available to your team.

zsh-git-prompt is a Z shell prompt script that displays rich Git repository information in your shell prompt, such as branch, ahead/behind status, staged changes, conflicts, and more. It enhances developer productivity in version-controlled workflows. There is now a Haskell implementation as well, which can be four to six times faster than the Python one. The reason is not that Haskell is faster in itself (although it is), but that this implementation calls git only once. You may redefine the function git_super_status (after the source statement) to adapt it to your needs (to change the order in which the information is displayed).
