It was used on pioneering personal computers (such as the Apple II, Commodore PET, etc.), enabling users to write and run programs in BASIC on those systems. While I may have started with Linux 0.11, I've expanded this to include several older relases of the Linux kernel that you can cross compile from Windows, and run on Qemu. I've managed to get the older versions of the software tools running on Windows, so that there is no major invasive source changes, outside of either broken drivers, or massaging the makefiles to find things in the new paths, and calling the appropriate tools where needed. This is a short simple boot-able program that animates some Lissajous figures. It can only run when the computer contains Bios, and when the computer is booted. The complete source code is here as an .asm file which can be compiled instantly with the Fasmw compiler. It has an interesting way of switching the computer into 64 bit Long mode. It actually switches the computer back and forth between 16 bit and 64 bit mode, easily, with an interesting technique. -
