The TESTIMAGES archive is a huge and free collection of sample images designed for analysis and quality assessment of different kinds of displays and image processing techniques. The archive includes more than 2 million images originally acquired and divided in three different categories: SAMPLING and SAMPLING_PATTERNS (aimed at testing resampling algorithms), COLOR (aimed at testing color rendering on different displays) and PATTERNS (aimed at testing the rendering of standard geometrical patterns). Taxoblast is a pipeline to identify contamination in genomic sequence
Raw genomic sequences are frequently contaminated with sequences of other organism. Their identification is essential for the interpretation of genomic data. In this context it is essential to distinguish between horizontal gene transfers and contamination. The genomic context of sequences can help distinguish the two scenarios. Taxoblast splits genomic scaffolds into sub-sequences of defined length and for each of them determines the closest related taxon. It then summarizes this information for the entire scaffold, taking into account the taxonomic ontology. Scaffolds that exclusively match potential contaminants may be safely removed while sequences matching partially contaminants and partially the target organism may constitute horizontal transfers or assembly artifacts and need to be examined manually.

java8 based yb (creator's name) medical mini dictionary with text file
As a medical blogger, I felt that there is a need for platform-independent medical dictionary. Hence 'java 8'. The dictionary must be customizable ie. user should be able to add, delete words. Hence, the use of text file for medical data, instead of xml or some database or sql or some hard-to-understand things. Java 8 can be invoked even from usb pen drives. We have used only one .java file which contains the main class. Compiling it yielded only two classes. Thus simplicity is maintained, without any frills. This medical mini dictionary has only some 10,00 sample words, available on internet freely. The data text file and the classes ARE NOT TO BE COMMERCIALISED. User can go on adding his own words by using a text editor such as geany or gedit.

Automatic compound splitting and semantic analysis of compounds
The central problem to be addressed in this project concerns a multidisciplinary (linguistics and computational linguistics) investigation into sharing of knowledge and resources between closely-related languages, specifically relating to the automatic processing of compounds. Specifically, we will explore the possibility to create new knowledge about closely-related languages, and efficiently develop additional, more advanced resources for (a) compound segmentation; and (b) the semantic analysis of compounds; as such, the project will be divided into two interrelated subprojects, to be executed simultaneously. The focus in this project will be on Afrikaans (with Dutch as the closely-related, well-sourced language), which will lay grounds for future work on other closely-related language pairs.
