    A program for associating taxonomic information in a phylogenetic tree

    TaxOnTree is a phylogenetic program for associating Taxonomic information in a phylogenetic tree. The output is a NEX format tree file configured to be opened in FigTree, that users can promptly color by any taxa or by the ancestrality shared by sequences with query. Input can be a Fasta formatted file to be used in a BLAST search or a list of sequences represented by their identifiers (UniProtAC or NCBI gi), if a cluster is already available. Also, a newick file produced with user software and specific settings can be used to proceed with the taxonomic labeling. TaxOnTree turns its user into an expert on taxonomy. TaxOnTree also corrects for the absence of some taxa in NCBI taxonomy. Command line program is easy to set up and can be coupled to several bioinformatics tools, producing a colored tree in PDF format. TaxOnTree is available as a web tool in http://biodados.icb.ufmg.br/taxontree for low demanding jobs.

    C++ libraries for manipulations in non-Euclidean geometry

    The project contains two C++ libraries for symbolic, numeric and graphical manipulations in non-Euclidean geometry. The first library Cycle implements basic operations on cycles (quadrics) through SFSCc construction. The second library Figure operates on ensembles of cycles connected by Moebius-invariant relations, e.g. orthogonality. Both libraries are based on the Clifford algebra capacities of the GiNaC computer algebra system (http://ginac.de). Besides C++ libraries there is a Python wrapper, which can be used in interactive mode. The core of both libraries is done for an arbitrary dimension and arbitrary signature of the space metric. Additionally, there are some 2D/3D-specific routines including a visualisation to PostScript files through Asymptote (http://asymptote.sourcefourge.net) software. The source code is written in literate programming environment NoWeb (http://www.cs.tufts.edu/~nr/noweb/).

    Reliquarium is a unique set of four 3D geometric slider puzzles for kids, all with a Crystal Skull theme. It runs on Windows, GNU/Linux or Mac/OS-X. Reckless raiders have plundered a tomb and displaced an ancient relic. The objective is to return the relic to the center of its cubical box by rearranging the numbered blocks back into their proper order, which also represents a proper RGB coloring...Red in the X-direction, Green in the Y-direction, Blue in the Z-direction. Dragging the cursor rotates the cube for a better view angle. The mouse wheel zooms. Typing a number 1..8 selects a block to move, 0 selects the relic itself. Then use the keys {u,d,l,r,f,b} to move it. As indicated on screen, (h) will toggle a help screen. These unique puzzles are spatially challenging, yet easy enough for children and will likely help with learning 3D visualization, geometry, problem solving and computer skills.
