Optimization of DEMs & accuracy assessment
The aim of this research effort is to optimize the 3 global DEMS with a horizontal resolution 1 arc sec that are available free of charge. For the 3-dimensional space formed by ALOS, SRTM and ASTER GDEMs, the first principal component (PC) includes the optimized GDEM (regional) information. Under this consideration, the rest PCs include the noise and the errors (residual information) associated to the elevation differences observed among the 3 GDEMs. So it is appropriate to keep the leading PC and discarding the rest through an inverse PCs transformation. The amount of residual information that is removed from each DEM is well quantified in the form of residual GDEM images. The three optimized GDEMs are non parametrically adjusted to each other and the elevation differences among them are minimized. So the three optimized GDEM are a better representation of earth’s surface in comparison to the initial GDEMs, etc., etc.,
A reference implementation of the Polish geobotanical grid
This project is a reference, open source implementation of the coordinate conversion algorithms for the Polish geobotanical grid called ATPOL.
Batch convert Lat/Long to UTM for Zone 19
This simple R code converts GPS coordinates from Decimal Degrees or Degrees Minutes Seconds format to Northings and Eastings in UTM Zone 19. Coordinates should be entered as a .csv containing the column names "Latitude" and "Longitude" (capitalization does not matter). The code was designed primarily for use by researchers at the University of Maine working on the Penobscot River, but could be easily modified to handle other UTM Zones.
The EFB OS is an "operating shell" design for Windows-based Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) platforms, including an application launcher, hardware-independant brightness controls, and more. Developent is supported by the PaperlessCockpit.com community.
Ready-to-use appliance for GIS, Data Mining and Analysis, Modelling...
GISBox by Citiviz is a ready-to-use virtual appliance containing an assortment of powerful, free and open source GIS, Data Mining and Analysis, Modelling and Programming software and packages. The pre-configured and tested GISBox allows you to try and use in few minutes a variety of software used by data scientists, engineers, physicists, mathematicians, geomatics engineers, and geographers from around the globe, without installing anything more than once the Oracle VirtualBox™ software (https://www.virtualbox.org/) on your Linux, Windows or Mac computer. The GISBox is free and open, allowing it to be freely distributed, duplicated and passed around, even with your own datasets and in-house applications. If you read this and are related to the Ecole polytechnique de Lausanne - EPFL (http://www.epfl.ch) in Switzerland, please use this link for downloading or support information: http://gisbox.epfl.ch. Look up in river distances in the Penobscot River drainage.
Allows user to input a .csv of UTM coordinates within the Penobscot River basin and calculates in-river distance (in kilometers) from the river's mouth to the locations of interest. The results are output into a new .csv file named yourfilename+RKM.csv. For the purposes of this calculator, river kilometer 0 is located at 516414E 4927755N in UTM Zone 19N, near the southwest corner of Verona Island. Simply download the setup file and run it to install the program. Please contact me with suggestions to improve this program.
