    Mala ProEx and Easy Locator GPR control software

    Reverse engineered communication protocol for the Mala ProEx and Easy Locator GPR implemented as a command line interface running on unix systems. The communication protocol was ported to a graphical user interface applicable to embedded systems through the use of the Qt toolkit (tested on Armadeus Systems APF27 board). The GUI includes GPS datalogging capability assuming a receiver providing NMEA sentences at 4800 bauds is connected to the host computer. Because the software requires access to the raw socket communication, it must be run with administration (root) privileges. A dedicated mode for sensor reading through the wireless GPR link is implemented through 2 separate time-windows, one for subsurface structure analysis and the other for sensor signal recording. The wiki describes the cause of long term drift and hardware modification of the ProEx timing board to try to solve the issue. This software is a contribution to COST action TU1208 Civil Engineering Application of GPR.

The executable will write an .ini file from within the same folder it is launched. The ini file retrieves the interface options as well as positioning the window a the same spot as when it was last used.

    Framework for Aquatic Biogeochemical Models

    The Framework for Aquatic Biogeochemical Models (FABM): a Fortran 2003 programming framework for biogeochemical models of marine and freshwater systems. FABM enables complex biogeochemical models to be developed as sets of stand-alone, process-specific modules. These can be combined at runtime to create custom-tailored models. This approach has been adopted to implement several large ecosystem models in FABM, including ERSEM (marine), and AED and PCLake (freshwater). FABM has also been used to model suspended sediment and redox chemistry. FABM has been coupled to several hydrodynamic models, including GOTM, GETM, GLM, MOM4 and MOM5. It also comes with a stand-alone box model driver. FABM uses modern software standards: it is coded in object-oriented Fortran 2003, has a build system based on CMake, and uses YAML files for configuration.

    The Coastline Evolution Model (CEM), originally developed by Ashton et al. (2001), Ashton and Murray (2006) and Valvo et al. (2006), is a reduced complexity, one-line sediment transport model that simulates the evolution of coastlines via wave-driven alongshore sediment transport. The original CEM has no Graphical User Interface (GUI) and does not provide graphical visualisations during model runs. The modified version given here includes these features. This project forms part of a wider research project and further developments on this model are anticipated.
