A planetarium software that shows a 3D simulation of the night sky
Stellarium renders 3D photo-realistic skies in real time with OpenGL. It displays stars, constellations, planets, nebulae and others things like ground, landscape, atmosphere, etc.
Real-time 3D visualization of space
Celestia is an application for real-time 3D visualization of space, with a detailed model of the solar system, over 100,000 stars, more than 10,000 galaxies, and an extension mechanism for adding more objects.
Software for Moon observation and survey. Let you visualize the real Moon aspect at every time. Also help to study any lunar formations using feature database and pictures library.
Satellite tracking software
PreviSat is a satellite tracking software for observing purposes. Very easy to use, it shows positions of artificial satellites in real-time or manual mode. PreviSat is able to make predictions of their passes, predictions of Iridium flares and several other calculations.
Xplanet is a solar system simulator which calculates accurate positions for the major planets and satellites. It displays multiple bodies, eclipse shadows, and customizable labels and markers.
PP3 creates celestial charts. It generates resolution independent sky maps of very high graphical quality. They can be used for example as illustrations in books or on web pages. Databases are included but you may use own data if you wish.
Astronomy CCD capture software
A CCD capture software intended for the amateur astronomer. It include all the features required to perform digital imaging CCD observation of celestial objects. Using the standard drivers protocol INDI and ASCOM it can connect and control the CCD camera, the focuser, the filter wheel and the telescope mount. This software is part of a full suite for astronomical observation: https://sourceforge.net/projects/skychart/ https://sourceforge.net/projects/indistarter/ https://sourceforge.net/projects/eqmodgui/ Requirement: https://sourceforge.net/projects/libpasastro/ See also: https://sourceforge.net/projects/indi/
ORSA is an interactive tool for scientific grade Celestial Mechanics computations. Asteroids, comets, artificial satellites, Solar and extra-Solar planetary systems can be accurately reproduced, simulated, and analyzed.
AudeLA is a TCL extension aimed at providing amateur astronomers with image processing, telescope controling, ccd camera driving, and various astronomical algorithms.
Astrology software inspired by the SYMBOLON deck. This software calculates the planet positions and make symbolon card tables according to the calculated constellation. It can draw the classical circular horoscope also.
A virtual planetarium for observers of the real sky.
Aciqra is a virtual planetarium and sky mapping program which tracks celestial bodies including planets, deep sky objects and stars to an accuracy of a fraction of a degree for thousands of years into both the future and the past. It includes the 2.5 million stars of the Tycho-2 catalog supplemented by data of 120,000 stars from the Hipparcos catalog, 13,000 deep space objects from the NGC and IC catalogs and a large number of asteroids and comets from the Minor Planet Center. The program is platform-independent and can be made to work on most modern computers that support OpenGL.
OpenUniverse is a fun, fast and free space simulator. It currently focusses on the Solar System and lets you visit all of its planets, major moons and a vast collection of smaller bodies in realtime 3D (using OpenGL).
General data-reduction tool for fiber-fed integral-field spectrographs
p3d is a general data-reduction tool for use with fiber-fed integral-field spectrographs (IFSs); although, the spectrum viewer works with spectrum data cubes of any origin. The tool is built about the proprietary software IDL (Harris/EXELIS; see http://www.harrisgeospatial.com), but can be used without any license. Most slowly running loops are implemented in parallelized C (OpenMP).
Software for planet observation and study
Allow you to visualize any planet aspect at any time. Include extended feature database and texture. Many function are oriented to the observation at the telescope and other to indoor research .
The threeaxis project will provide support for controlling three axis telescope mounts. This includes documentation of pointing equations, a simulation of the mount's motion, and real-time control software.
EXTREMA is an interactive program with publication quality graphics and mathematical analysis capabilities. EXTREMA can be GUI and/or command driven. The command language includes conditional branching, looping and subroutine calling constructs.
SkyNET is a sky chart program for .NET
Simulation of star movements with great visualizations of flights through star fields.
Univerx, a Solar System simulator in OpenGL 3D to show planet's translation and rotation. Includes phisical simulation of orbital movement, textured and lighted planet surfaces and customizable interactive view of the model.
This program will enable you to find every solar eclipse in between about 2500 BC to 3500 AD. The central line can be displayed graphically and saved as a JPEG or PNG image file or as a PDF document.
WAFIMPA is the abbreviation of "WArped FIsh-eye Mirror Projection Adjuster". This is small GUI application. It helps to setup spheric mirror projection systems that frequently used in small planetariums (generates warp-map and mplayer ppm files).
L.E.I.C.A. (Long Exposure Internet CAmera) is an application that takes input from your webcam, or v4l2 device, and makes a long-exposure image. Until now there's only a python binding for this app, soon there will be a C/C++ SDL one
