gImageReader is a simple Gtk/Qt front-end to tesseract. pcdtojpeg converts PCD (Kodak Photo CD) image files into high quality JPEG images. Conversions are at the maximum available PCD resolution, and are fully color managed - no blown highlights or color casts. A C++ PCD decoder library is also available.

Scanning albums is not an easy task, since the extraction of actual photographs within scans is usually very tedious. SwingSane is a powerful, cross platform, open source Java front-end for using Scanner Access Now Easy (SANE) back-ends. The most powerful feature is its ability to query back-ends for scanner specific options which can be set by the user as a scanner profile. It also has support for authentication, mutlicast DNS discovery, simultaneous scan jobs, image transformation jobs (deskew, binarize, crop, etc), PDF and PNG output. It can also be integrated with your own Java application.

ScanTWAIN is an Open Source TWAIN production quality scanning application based on QT 3.x. ScanTWAIN allows for duplex scanning from automatic document feeder (ADF) based scanners via TWAIN.

https://formread.org FormRead is a completely free OMR (optical mark recognition) web software for scanning and grading user-filled, multiple choice forms. Create your formats with any of your office or drawing tools, scan them and parameterize their coordinates in an easy way. Once you have parameterized your form, you can print many of them, give it to your students/respondents, scan and recognize them with formread, and you can finally export the data in your preferred formats (excel, pdf, csv)

OpenExif is an object-oriented library for accessing Exif formated JPEG image files. The toolkit allows creating, reading, and modifying the metadata in the Exif file. It also provides means of getting and setting the main image and the thumbnail image.

Shared Questionnaire System(SQS) is a full-functional Optical Mark Reader(OMR) form processing system implemented in Java-Swing, XSL-FO and AJAX with straightforward GUIs. It is aimed at developing social platform to share knowledge about questionnaire.

A simple GUI frontend for scanning documents into PDF format. Utilizes scanimage, ps2pdf, pnmflip, and pnmtops commands. Automatically detects scanners avaliable on system. Developed on Linux but might work on other platforms with some tweaking.

Akshara Malayalam OCR is a project for the development of an OCR for printed and handwritten documents in Malayalam language. The inspiration is from similar OCR softwares in other languages etc.

This project was used to develop an OS-independent driver for the CanoScan FB630U flatbed scanner in the form of a backend for the SANE package. Since integration with the SANE project in 2002, there has been no activity here.
