It's not a mere base conversion, because it doesn't use arithmetic inside its logic. In this way it can convert very long numbers into strings quickly, without overflows.     Average is a simple and fast command-line Perl utility for calculating basic statistics on a list of numbers (one number per line). It works as a traditional Unix filter and can be used as part of those greatly useful chains of piped commands. It calculates average (arithmetic mean), standard deviation, median, total sum, minimum and maximum values present, and shows the number of processed numbers.
