...We take inspiration from Plan9, Minix, Linux, and BSD. Redox aims to synthesize years of research and hard won experience into a system that feels modern and familiar. Redox is an attempt to make a complete, fully-functioning, general-purpose operating system with a focus on safety, freedom, reliability, correctness, and pragmatism. We want to be able to use it, without obstructions, as an alternative to Linux on our computers. It should be able to run most Linux programs with only minimal modifications. We're aiming towards a complete, safe Rust ecosystem. -

...Our goal is an in place replacement to our current everyday systems (The creators use Linux daily, and support Windows and MacOS systems at work) that doesn't have all of the bloated crapware that is invading all operating systems nowadays (just look at systemd). We will build our complete environment in Rust. All of our base apps will be in Rust, and we will build a Gnu toolchain replacement so if you would like 'x' open source software to be installed on the system it can. As such this will be a fully Integrated System Environment.
