Open Source MATLAB Mechanical and Civil Engineering Software

A cross-platform, open-source, alternative to NIST REFPROP. Based on reference-accuracy equations of state and transport property correlations for refrigerants like Water, CO2, R134a, Nitrogen, Argon, Ammonia, Air, R404a, R410a, Propane and many others. A selection of secondary working fluid properties are also available. Can also make use of REFPROP when available. In addition, calculations for Humid Air Properties based on ASHRAE RP-1485 are provided. Wrappers are available for MATLAB, Octave, Python, C#, Fortran and many more.

ADiGator is a source transformation via operator overloading tool for the automatic differentiation of mathematical functions written in MATLAB. Given a user written file, together with information on the inputs of said file, ADiGator uses forward mode automatic differentiation to generate a new file which contains the calculations required to compute the numeric derivatives of the original user function. Furthermore, these calculations are written entirely in the native MATLAB language, and thus the process may be repeated to obtain nth order derivative files. The package is particularly appealing for applications where the same derivative must be found at multiple different points, i.e. non-linear root finding/optimization, stiff ode integration, etc.

ArchNURBS is a MATLAB tool for the analysis of planar curved structures, with a particular attention to masonry arches. As in CAD softwares, the geometry of the model is defined by a NURBS representation of the structure. Indeed, the user can upload geometries imported from a CAD environment. Based on such a representation, ArchNURBS performs the elastic isogeometric finite element analysis and the collapse limit analysis of the structure. It is possible to include in the analysis the presence of Fiber-Reinforced Polymers (FRP) extrados and intrados strips. The collection MICROMECHANICS (micromechanics.zip) includes: (1) lecture notes (microbook.pdf) on the analysis of heterogeneous materials and homogenization, and (2) source codes (microcode.tar.bz2) that accompany the computational exercises in Part II of the notes. Instructions on using the codes are given in the README file of each exercise. Further instructions can be found in the file microcode.tar.bz2. The MATLAB codes are used for visualization, evaluating analytical bounds and estimates as well as in the generation of digital and particulate microstructures. The Fortran codes are based on the finite element method in linear and nonlinear settings, the latter capable of finite deformations with damage. T0 Test Evaluation Module (T0TEM) V1.5 calculates the ASTM E1921-19b master curve and T0 temperature for ferritic steels in the ductile-brittle transition region. It creates all required plots for the basic master curve and the inhomogeneity annex. Output is delivered via table or CSV and plots exported as picture files. The program is coded in MATLAB 2021a using App Designer. Use of T0TEM V1.5 is possible without a MATLAB license by utilizing the free MATLAB Runtime Version 9.10. This program was created by NASA at Marshall Space Flight Center.

This is a project to create a simple, open-source, simulation of a turbine suitable for use in wind or tidal streams in plain Octave/Matlab code. It will be designed to be suitable for integration with, and the testing of, some existing power take-off models. The drive train of the turbine will be modeled, with the scope of the model being the conversion of a given wind velocity to a torque at the input of a power take-off unit.

Though, initially developed for experiments related to fretting wear but can be effectively used to interpret experimental data from any field. TASC V1.0.2 is now available. - See users manual for release details Tool for Analysis of Surface Cracks (TASC) is a computer program created in MATLAB to enable easy computation of nonlinear J-integral solutions for surface cracked plates in tension by accessing and interpolating between the 600 nonlinear surface crack solutions documented in NASA/TP–2013-217480. The only required inputs are the surface crack dimensions (2c and a), plate cross-section dimensions (W and B), and linear plus power law material properties of elastic modulus, yield strength, and strain hardening coefficient. With the geometry and material parameters entered, TASC interpolates to the appropriate J(φ) vs. crack mouth opening displacement (CMOD) and far-field tension stress, σ, vs. CMOD solution, providing the full solution as CMOD ranges from zero out to the CMOD limit of the solution space for the given input parameters.

A general flow visualization Matlab toolbox for image processing of some common planar/surface visualization techniques from PLIF (Planar laser induce fluorescence) for tracer distribution, BOS (background oriented Schlieren) for density, TSLC (Temperature sensitive liquid crystal) for thermal and PSP (Pressure sensitive paint) pressure distribution measurement. This work is part of author's PhD study, under Dr S. Zhong @ the University of Manchester's supervision, guidance and support.
