Managing large application state easily, resiliently, and with high performance is one of the hardest problems in the cloud today. The FASTER project offers two artifacts to help tackle this problem. FASTER Log is a high-performance concurrent persistent recoverable log, iterator, and random reader library in C#. It supports very frequent commit operations at low latency, and can quickly saturate disk bandwidth. It supports both sync and async interfaces, handles disk errors, and supports checksums. FASTER KV is a concurrent key-value store + cache (available in C# and C++) that is designed for point lookups and heavy updates. FASTER supports data larger than memory, by leveraging fast external storage (local or cloud). It also supports consistent recovery using a new checkpointing technique that lets applications trade-off performance for commit latency.

Google Logging (glog) is a C++98 library that implements application-level logging. The library provides logging APIs based on C++-style streams and various helper macros. glog supports multiple build systems for compiling the project from source, Bazel, CMake, and vcpkg. glog also supports CMake that can be used to build the project on a wide range of platforms. If you don’t have CMake installed already, you can download it for from CMake’s official website. CMake works by generating native makefiles or build projects that can be used in the compiler environment of your choice. You can either build glog with CMake as a standalone project or it can be incorporated into an existing CMake build for another project. glog defines a series of macros that simplify many common logging tasks. You can log messages by severity level, control logging behavior from the command line, log based on conditionals, abort the program when expected conditions are not met, etc.

The Logging operator solves your logging-related problems in Kubernetes environments by automating the deployment and configuration of a Kubernetes logging pipeline. The Logging operator manages the log collectors and log forwarders of your logging infrastructure, and the routing rules that specify where you want to send your different log messages. You can filter and process the incoming log messages using the flow custom resource of the log forwarder to route them to the appropriate output. The outputs are the destinations where you want to send your log messages, for example, Elasticsearch, or an Amazon S3 bucket. swatchdog.pl started out as swatch, the "simple watchdog" for activity monitoring log files produced by UNIX's syslog facility. It has since been evolving into a utility that can monitor just about any type of log. The name has been changed to satisfy a request made by the old Swiss watch company.
