I provide this software as a demonstration on how we do it at the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute. The script is run daily as a cron command. Feel free to take and modify this code any way you want. But if you are using it, I'd love to at least here from you and know I didn't put this up for nothing. The program has no major prerequisites, except the Python package pyPdf. It is build for Python 2.6.x series, but will probably work on many others as well. -

It is very simple, and can be included into a page using an iframe, it automatically copies the latest version of an image to the database which can be viewed using gallery.php to view all with sorting options, or using recentListing.php which shows the 10 most recent images archived. Because startup systems like systemd and upstart are sometimes hard to tune in many situations, like MySQL data directory on a networked filesystem. As rc.stupid does nothing other as running scripts (or anything that may be executed) you may find other use cases like simple clustering. -
