It is currently capable of loading dynamic libraries and using external C code. In the future code that more directly attaches to the interpreter are planned so as to expand its abilities out-of-the-box. -

...mesicat accepts a .mesi file (Meta ESI) containing a description of the EtherCAT CoE dictionary and other stack configuration information. Make commands in this file then trigger the creation of sane defaults, SII EEPROM, XML files, and so forth. The .mesi file is inspired by the various IDL files used in web space (e.g. protobuf) and uses a C-like syntax to reduce cognitive overhead when developing slave code. The goal is to automate EtherCAT compliance to the extent practicable and provide a DRY (don't repeat yourself) automated build for the required files. ...The same code that is displayed next to the illustration is also decorated using babel-plugin-trace-execution and executed to record the context at every step. Literally the same source file. Going back and forth between function execution (and call stack when algorithm uses recursion) is effortless. So is pausing and resuming. This project uses styled-jsx, but takes the idea of CSS-in-JS even further. Sizing, positioning and transition offsets are computed by JS, all before elements hit the DOM. -

This was the 4th version of the Pascal-P compiler created by Niklaus Wirth's group at ETH Zurich, termed Pascal-P4. Pascal-P4 is a "Running history project".
