...The aim of this library is to provide a simple and concise way to do common image operations, such as resizing to fit a required width and height, converting between formats, applying filters, and so on. It is easy to use from any language on the JVM. A typical use case for this library would be creating thumbnails of images uploaded by users in a web app, bounding a set of product images so that they all have the same dimensions, optimizing PNG uploads by users to apply maximum compression, or applying a grayscale filter in a print application.

...It handles file selection, previews, progress reporting, and XHR-based uploading with minimal setup. Multiple files can be processed together, and large files can be divided into smaller chunks for more reliable transfer. Image uploads can generate thumbnails and resize images in the browser before transmission. The library also supports Amazon S3 multipart upload workflows. Developers can replace default event handlers and styling to fully customize appearance and behavior. Version 6 ships its own TypeScript definitions and is maintained in a monorepo containing the library, documentation, website, tests, and examples.

...It is often used in upload flows where images need to be previewed, resized, rotated, or cropped before being sent to a server, reducing bandwidth and improving user experience. The library can interpret image metadata, including Exif and IPTC tags, and can extract embedded thumbnails when present, which is handy for building fast image pickers or galleries. One of its key capabilities is correcting Exif Orientation, so photos taken on mobile devices appear upright without additional server-side processing. It also offers the option to preserve or restore image headers when resizing, which helps retain metadata or orientation information in the re-encoded image.

...The project also adds a “Preview in Windows Explorer” feature so users can see full-size SVGs in the side preview pane without launching an editor. It supports features like CSS-based styling, embedded fonts, and scaling in thumbnails so the preview matches rendering expectations. Because Windows doesn’t natively render SVG previews in many versions, this fills a usability gap for designers, developers, and content creators working with vector assets. The extension is lightweight, integrates into shell UI seamlessly, and improves file navigation workflows involving vectors.
