A console-mode program that will keep all your passwords safe
PasswordBox is a console-mode program that will keep all your passwords safe, in an encrypted database protected by a master password. PasswordBox can also be used to generate secure (random) passwords. This program is written by Mateusz Viste, and uses the AES implementation of Chris Brown to handle all encryption/decryption processes. PasswordBox is available for the following operating systems: DOS, Windows, Linux. Remember, that if you forget your master password, you will have no way to recover the database content. Usage: pbox [--help] [--dump] --help displays a help screen (any unsupported parameter will display it, too) --dump lists all the data of your encrypted database onscreen
Pruebas is an open source game mix of text adventure and RPG written in Microsoft QBasic (under MS-DOS 6.22) that uses keyboard. Runs natively under MS-DOS and compatible OS like Windows (use emulators like DosBox to run it under BeOS, Linux, *BSD, etc).
A pseudo-graphical calculator for FreeDOS (or any other DOS)
FoxCalc is a calculator with a text user interface (TUI), compiled for DOS. It supports a mouse, and uses the GMP library, therefore its results are highly accurate. FoxCalc is distributed as a zip FreeDOS package. That way, it can be easily installed using the FreeDOS package manager.
A simple console-mode text editor
Mateusz's Saucy Editor (MSEDIT) is a simple editor working in the DOS environment. I decided to write it, because I had been using the Microsoft's EDIT editor for years, without finding any free alternative. Of course, there is plenty of free DOS editors out there, but no one has ever matched my expectations (or should I say, my taste). I guess that's because I had already been "formatted" by the MS editor :-) You will probably notice that MSEDIT is very similar to Microsoft's EDIT. That's a pure coincidence, and there is no connection at all between both of them.
a tool to control LPT-attached devices manually or on a time basis
A DOS "driver" for computer LPT ports (parallel "CENTRONICS"). It allow to change easily the logic states of any pins, either manually or automatically (on a predefined time basis). With a small electronic circuit we can for example drive electric devices trought the PC. The program can support max. 24 devices and 3 LPT ports (0x287, 0x387 and 0x3BC). There is no need to build an additional electronic circuit for small power devices like LEDs (10-20mA), but for bigger projects (motors, etc.), the circuit is needed. The lptdrv tool is written in QuickBASIC.
Q-step is a new GUI for dos written in QuickBasic
A graphical, multiplatform ANSI files viewer and converter
ANSiMat is a graphical viewer of ANSI art files. It can also be used to convert ANSI (or plain ASCII) files into regular (BMP, TGA, PCX...) graphic files, or into animations (FLC). Altough not initially designed for this, ANSiMat can be successfully used as an ASCII art viewer, or even simple text files viewer. ANSiMat is available for Linux, Windows and DOS. ANSiMat supports also modem emulation speed, therefore it can be used to display ANSI animations.

A clone of the good old "Pong" game.
Emeritus Pong is a clone of the good old "Pong" game. It tries to be relatively close to the original, therefore no fancy graphic or astonishing sound effects there. Emeritus Pong is written to be able to run on any modern PC. There are three versions available: DOS, Windows and Linux. Emeritus Pong features also a cool demo mode, which makes it playing against itself, displaying the current time as scores. The game is programmed to run flawlessly on any modern PC, but it will run on older architectures, too. A 90 MHz Pentium CPU and 2 Mb of RAM should be enough to run comfortably the DOS version. Emeritus Pong may run in any usual resolution, ranging from 320x240 to 1280x1024, fullscreen or windowed. If you would like to use any other video mode (not available from the game's setup), you will have to manually edit the empong.cfg configuration file. Windows and Linux versions require a sound card for sound, and DOS version simply uses the internal PC Speaker.

A multilingual hangman game for DOS
Here is a very simple game widely known as "Hangman". The computer chooses a random word from a file, and the player has to guess it. There is a possibility to add own words and/or create own vocabulary files. Many vocabulary files are shipped with the game. The program supports the following languages: english, french, german, dutch, polish and hungarian. It requires at least a 80286 processor and an EGA graphic card. Works on DOS, and any DOS-compatible operating system.
The Famous Recursive Algorithm In Old-Fashioned BASIC
This program is written in BWBasic, the version provided with DOSEMU, the DOS emulator. In this version of BASIC, you use GOSUB to call a procedure, and there are no local variables. So I used arrays to allocate memory for stacks, from where the "local variables" are taken. From this code you can learn how recursion and functions with dynamic local variables work.
An editor for NES ROMs in the iNES format.
MiNES is an editor for NES ROMs in the iNES format. I wrote MiNES because I needed a portable iNES editor that would allow me to change the PAL/NTSC bit of the iNES header. MiNES follows the Marat Fayzullin's iNES specification, and takes care to not change any unused (reserved for future use) bits. That way you can be sure that it will not brake your ROMs (unless you do something stupid), and preserve compatibility with future versions of the iNES format. MiNES computes ROM's CRC32 and uses an internal database to guess the game's title and correct (recommended) header settings.
