Convert user-saved tracks from GPS-Tracks for iPhone to KML files for Google Earth. The GPS-Tracks iPhone application is available from the App Store or from http://www.gps-tracks.com . It can save recorded GPS tracks to the iPhone storage. This little Java applet provides the functionality to convert these saved tracks to KML files, for use with Google earth. Under Windows, it uses the synced files from the iTunes phone files backup, and extracts the tracks from there. Under Linux, it uses the virtual file system provided by libgpod (which provides an iPhone-gvfs-bridge) and gvfs-fuse (which offers gvfs virtual filesystems as Linux FUSE filesystems). Please note that this app is rather rudimentary. If you run into problems, please open a ticket to describe the issue; time permitting, I'll try to fix it.

A java application that shows speed, direction and position in mobile phones that has a built in gps. Primary for use in boat or car, but hiking is fine too. To install just download the newest gpspal_x_x_x.jar file and send it to your phone.

GPX2ProfileImage is a Java application that takes gpx files and turns them into elevation profile images. GPX files are created by GPS devices such as the Garmin Edge series bicycle computers, as well as by applications like LoadMyTracks, Ascent.

There are many good programs to manage gpx tracks from my sport activities. My favorite one is gps-prune to view gps tracks on a map and make changes. However, I was missing a simple tool to store summary information about a gpx track into a database to keep track of my training efforts. That's why I created GPXReport. GPXReport is a desktop solution which is written in Java and should run on most computers. The program can read a gpx-file and calculate basics information such as: - overall and moving time - distance (km), - average and max speed - time, km uphill and downhill It automatically classifies the acitvity as hiking, MTB or race bike. Each track information can be added to a Sqlite database. The program can display all information of the database and summarize it by activity.

A program for cropping GPX track files. The GUI plots the GPX track (latitude vs longitude) and lets the user remove GPS points from the beginning and end of the track respectively. There is also a built-in Command Line Interface. Note: No development anymore since I found out that GpsPrune does all the things I was looking for.

!!! Project servers were closed in the beginning of 2012 because the project was not actual anymore (massivity using Android and iOS devices instead of "simple" mobile phones). Plus Codes are like street addresses for people or places that don’t have one. Instead of addresses with street names and numbers, Plus Codes are based on latitude and longitude and displayed as numbers and letters. Plus Codes are based on a set of 20 alphanumeric characters. They do not include easily confused characters, are not case-sensitive, and exclude vowels. Plus Codes represent an area. The resolution of the area can be changed by adding or removing characters after the “+” sign. Simple, free to use, open-source digital addressing, for the entire world.
