Open Source C++ Fractal Software

FractalNow provides users with tools to generate pictures of various types of fractals quickly and easily. It is made of both a command line tool, FractalNow, and a graphical tool, QFractalNow. The graphical tool, based on Qt library, allows users to explore fractals intuitively and generate pictures. Both tools are entirely multi-threaded and implement advanced algorithms and heuristics that make computation very fast compared to most existing free fractal generators.

Interactive application to generate and view random fractal planets and terrain with oceans, mountains, icecaps and rivers, then export them to POV-Ray format or Blender. Written in C++ using Qt and OpenGL.

PlaTec is a 2D terrain generator that uses a simplified model of plate tectonics to produce realistic heightmaps in real time. The simulator starts with a flat fractal map and splits it randomly into plates. Plates are moved around the map. If continents of two plates collide, they fold creating mountain belts. If oceanic crust of one plate collides with another plate, subduction occurs resulting in coastal mountain ranges or island chains. This project is part of my Bachelor of Engineering thesis in Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Helsinki, Finland. Knotter is a highly configurable interlace designer. Interlace patterns are a kind of design historically used as a decorations in many places and by different cultures, some examples are Celtic knotworks and Islamic interlaces. Knotter aims to allow its user to design such patterns in an intuitive way and to provide easy ways to integrate the result in external general-purpose graphic software. For this purpose, designs created within Knotter can be save in a custom human-readable format and exported as Scalable Vector Graphics and in a wide number of raster image formats.

Conway's Game of Life is generalized to a continuous domain. OpenGL and GLSL shaders are used for real-time 2D and 3D graphics. Time stepping is done via a real to complex FFT based convolution operation. There are also two deliberately simple test implementations in FreeBasic and Matlab. A 2D version on a sphere shows that it is really not dependent on the underlying grid.

Renderer for flam3 cosmic recursive fractal flames implemented on GPU. Requires a CUDA-capable graphics card.

"Generative art" software which evolves images/textures/patterns through an iterative process of random mutation and user-selection driven evolution. If you like lava lamps, and still think the Mandelbrot set is cool, this could be the software for you.

Fraqtive is an open source, multi-platform generator of the Mandelbrot family fractals. It uses very fast algorithms supporting SSE2 and multi-core processors. It generates high quality anti-aliased images and renders 3D scenes using OpenGL. It allows real-time navigation and dynamic generation of the Julia fractal preview. Game of Life 3D is an platform-independent OpenGL implementation of John Conway's Game of Life with a modern QT4 user interface. It features a random mode and different pre defined example modes.

March 2013 this project was announced first to public, but the feedback was ZERO. So I guess it is insanely bad and unusable. Ok. But sorry, I decided to continue it for myself to improve my inability and unexperience in software development FOR MYSELF. Even if it seemed to be the worst thing ever, I *NEED* to develop software for my own well being and even if I apparently - after over 20 years since the first lines of code I wrote - I improved my ability not a single bit than it is like that and I can't change it. BTW: there was feedback indeed: from the own 'family': "it is done by YOU so it cannot be of use for anybody!" JAME is an application for creating fractals. JAME is quite old and it hasn't been updated for long time. JAME has been replaced by NextFractal, which is actively maintained (see https://github.com/nextbreakpoint/nextfractal).

MandelZoom is a MandelBrot set displayer that applies polinomial results of the author 'Theory of continuous composition' to show soft color changes in the fractal field.

Total wraps the real value if it exceeds 1 or is less than -1. Right wraps only when the real values exceeds 1, Left only when less than -1. My first attempt is also there called 'Bad' because I'd created a couple of pictures and need bad versions if I want to work with them again. Instructions. NextFractal is an application for creating fractals and other algorithmically generated images. Images are generated from instructions contained in a script. An open-source project to develop a free, modern and sophisticated plant generation tool. This tool will feature an easy to use interface, and will be scalable, able to produce a large batch of similar plants simultaneously. The project is current just starting - I'm laying down some basic code to generate a tree skeleton, then using that skeleton to create an "envelope" mesh. Then I plan on adding features in subsequent releases. Then I'll probably end up rewriting all of the code and writing some documentation at the point where I have a good basic feature set. I will release new alphas every few weeks, containing source code and OS-specific binaries, unless I put development on hold for a while (see below). Project is currently ACTIVE.
