Shift is a lightweight framework for high performance local and remote file transfers that provides resiliency across a wide variety of failure scenarios through various techniques. These include end-to-end integrity via cryptographic hashes, throttling of transfers to prevent resource exhaustion, balancing transfers across resources based on load and availability, and parallelization of transfers across multiple source and destination hosts for increased redundancy and performance.

FTPprune is a Perl script to manage the size of a remote ftp archive. It was originally developed to manage offsite copies of Zoneminder CCTV events, but can be used with any FTP file archive. FTPprune will go through the archive and remove the oldest files reducing the archive size to a maximum that you specify, optionally preserving the last (-a) days of files. There are a few other options too - see the wiki for command line usage and Perl modules required.

bsclient is an interactive text-based client for browsing and downloading files from Illumina BaseSpace. It has a simple interface simliar to FTP and can be used to easily download files onto a remote server or in any situation when the web-based interface is not accessible or desirable.
