File extensions (.jpg for example) are preserved, and there is a user option to ensure that the extension is correct (for example, a .jpg file is indeed a jpeg and not, for example, a png). fafisu is short name for "fast file hash". it determines an md5-checksum from a 4 KB part of the middle of the file (you can change the size of that part). it is enough to use this checksum for determine if files could be equal. than use md5sum
