    Fan Control

    Fan Control

Highly customizable fan controlling software for Windows

Fan Control is a Windows utility designed to give users fine-grained, customizable control over system fans (CPU, GPU, case, etc.) based on temperature and sensor inputs. Rather than relying solely on BIOS fan curves, it allows dynamic adjustment of fan behaviour at the operating-system level — letting you react to real-time load, mix multiple sensors (CPU, GPU, motherboard, drives, etc.), and define custom fan-speed curves for different situations. The tool supports both manual mode (user directly sets fan speeds) and automated mode (fans follow sensor-driven graphs), enabling flexible tradeoffs between noise, cooling, and performance. Users can create and save different “profiles” (e.g. silent mode, high-performance mode, custom GPU-heavy workloads), then load them as needed. Recent versions switched their driver backend (migrating from WinRing0 to a PawnIO-based driver) to improve compatibility and avoid security/AV-flagging issues.

    NoteBook FanControl (NBFC)

    NoteBook FanControl (NBFC)

Cross-platform fan control service for notebooks

NoteBook FanControl (NBFC) is a cross-platform fan control service for notebooks. It comes with a powerful configuration system, which allows to adjust it to many different notebook models. Currently, there are no pre-built releases for Linux, but you can easily build NBFC yourself. In general the NBFC Wiki is the first place to go if you have any questions. If you want to build NBFC from source, the first thing you have to do is to download the source code. You can easily clone the NBFC repository via git. Make sure the Mono runtime + development tools are installed on your machine (Debian based distros: mono-complete, Arch based distros: mono). Config files are an integral part of NBFC, because they define how NBFC interacts with your notebook's embedded controller (EC). The EC monitors your system's temperatures and controls the fan(s). It sits on the motherboard or is integrated into a Super I/O chip & is connected to the Southbridge via the Low Pin Count (LPC) bus.

    SpeedFan

    SpeedFan

SpeedFan is an advanced system monitoring tool

SpeedFan lets you take a deeper view at the status of your computer. Almost every computer includes support for hardware monitoring. Accessing digital temperature sensors is really useful. If you are trying to figure out why your PC hangs when under heavy load or after some hours of usage, SpeedFan might help you find the real cause. Very often it is a poor power supply, or an improperly installed heatsink that lead to behaviours that we tend to associate (incorrectly) with errors from the operating system. SpeedFan automatically searches your computer for informative chips: the hardware monitor chips. SpeedFan can display voltages, fan speeds and temperatures. On rare occasions, the BIOS doesn't activate such features. SpeedFan tries to enable them as long as this is a safe thing to do. Not only the motherboard is searched, but also some video cards and almost every currently sold hard disk. SpeedFan can access status info from EIDE, SATA and even SCSI drives

    Lubbo's MacBook Pro Fan Control
ATTENTION: This project is not maintained anymore. Current Macs properly manage temperature and fans. Speed fan controller and temp monitoring for MacBook Pro Unibody (Nvidia) for Windows under BootCamp. It allows to control MacBook fans speeds depending on the CPU and GPU temperature. ATTENTION: This program is designed and tested only on MacBook Pro with NVIDIA GPU. On newer MacBooks with ATI GPU the GPU temperature is not checked. On iMacs some sensors and fans are not used. In any case USE AT YOUR OWN RISK, I'm not responsible for overheating or hardware damage.

    AlienFX Tools

    AlienFX Tools

Alienware systems lights, fans, and power control tools and apps

AlienFX Tools is a suite of utilities aimed at controlling lighting, fan, and power behaviors on Alienware systems, directly interfacing with USB or ACPI hardware rather than relying on official drivers. This project supports a broad range of effects and modes, allowing users to customize RGB lighting zones, create and switch profiles based on system states (like power source or running applications), and generate lighting behaviors tied to thermal and performance events. Because it operates at a low level, alienfx-tools can offer faster update rates and more flexible configurations compared to some manufacturer software. It includes both command-line and graphical frontend elements to support different user preferences, making it suitable for automation as well as interactive use. Enthusiasts use it to tailor lighting aesthetics and system responsiveness, especially on systems where official Alienware control panels are unavailable or problematic.

    FanCtrl

    FanCtrl

FanCtrl allows you to automatically control the fan speed

FanCtrl is a Windows desktop utility focused on automatically controlling PC fan speeds using temperature sensors and customizable fan curves, so your cooling behavior matches how you actually use your system. It combines monitoring and control in one place, letting you view temperatures, fan RPM, and control percentages while you tune how aggressively each fan responds. The project supports a range of control backends and integrations, including motherboard fan headers and several popular cooling ecosystems, and it can also pull sensor data from common monitoring tools so your fan logic can react to the readings you trust. A core concept is “auto fan control” profiles where you pick a target temperature sensor, select which fans should follow it, and then shape the curve via a graph-like interface. It also includes quality-of-life options like renaming items, choosing units (including Fahrenheit), and starting minimized for a set-it-and-forget-it setup.

    Oh My Fan!

    Oh My Fan!

Keep your Mac away from heat!

Oh My Fan! is a very useful app. It allows you to adjust your fan speed to make your Intel Mac run cooler. Benefit Highlighting: * Run in background mode with the CPU temperature info diplayed in the menu bar. * Drag the pointer in dashboard to adjust the fan speed. * You can control the fan speed from within the menubar easily. * See the temperature values in either Celsius(℃) or Fahrenheit(℉). * You can choose whether the Oh My Fan! will start at login, and I recommend do so. In order to not damage your machine, Oh My Fan! does not let you set a minimum/maximum speed to a value below/above Apple's defaults. If you encounter any issue, you can email me: Tong-G@outlook.com. If you are using GnuPG, you can send me encrypt email, my GnuPG pub key is sosueme@openmailbox.org, you can retrieve it from keyserver.

    Steam Deck Tools

    Steam Deck Tools

Fan, Overlay, Power Control and Steam Controller for Windows

Steam Deck Tools is a community-driven collection of utilities designed to enhance the experience of running Windows on the Valve Steam Deck. Hosted on GitHub and written primarily in C#, this suite bundles multiple practical tools into a single package, including fan control, performance overlay, power (TDP and refresh rate) adjustment, and Steam Controller support. The tools aim to fill functionality gaps when running Windows on a device originally optimized for SteamOS, such as adjusting thermal behavior or viewing real-time stats like FPS. Users have noted the project provides a lightweight alternative to other companion utilities and can be especially helpful when default drivers or settings don’t cover desired features. Because this software interacts with low-level system controls, its use carries some risk of instability, and it’s provided on a best-effort basis with documentation on installation and troubleshooting.
