The MIDI Sight Reader Java Applet works again! To use it you should use Firefox with Java Applet Plug-in installed. Developed using Firefox 25.0.1 and Java 7, Update 51. So what is it? Well it scrolls random notes within a selected key, playing them aloud for audio confirmation, while you, the user, play the notes on your instrument. There is no MIDI interface, the name refers to MIDI because it uses the Java Midi API and organizes everything numerically, according to MIDI numbers. The application plays the notes aloud as they pass under the centerline of the application window. So you adjust the scrolling speed and time between new notes and then play each note before the application echos it back to you. It also scrolls guitar tablature, as can be seen in the video. The keyboard and guitar models are linked so that playing a note on the piano keyboard (clicking a key) causes the guitar neck to display all the locations of the same note on the guitar neck. -

Gravitropic response is studied in most of the laboratories working with Arabidopsis thaliana, for example, to detect new phenotypes in mutants. However, manual analysis of images and microscopy data are known to be subjected to human bias. This is particularly the case for manual measurements of root bending as the angle is set subjectively. In this context, it is essential to develop and use automated or semi-automated image analysis to produce faster, reproducible, and unbiased data. In this context, we developped ACORBA (Automatic Calculation Of Root Bending Angles), a fully automated software to measure root bending angle over time. -

FABS is a program designed to run a fluorescence/absorption spectrometer on Windows. The program analyzes spectra and provides graphs and data files. Users may choose to input video files from cell phones or other cameras, still images, or even live streams of video from webcams. FABS can perform any necessary calibration and image preprocessing. Experienced users have a number of more advanced options such as background subtraction, adjustments for nonlinearities in detector response, and graph smoothing. FABS was designed with students in mind, as a way to help high schoolers and undergraduates learn about spectroscopy without paying for expensive equipment and software. Accompanying this software is a hardware design, which can be used as a bare-bones spectrometer that will provide quantitative absorption and fluorescence emission spectra at an extremely low cost. It uses only materials that many people can find around their home. -

A cross-platform text analysis program written in Python and Free Pascal/Lazarus which scans a whole text file (in plain text, HTML, EPUB, or ODT formats) and ranks all used words according to frequency, performing a quantitative analysis of the text using Shannon-Weaver information statistic and Zipf power law function.
