    Airborne Data Processing and Analysis

    Airborne Data Processing and Analysis

Software to processing and analyze of airborne measurements.

The Airborne Data Processing and Analysis (ADPAA) package is an open-source software package containing a collection of programs and scripts to process and analyze data from in-situ instruments deployed on airborne platforms. The ADPAA package was started to process data on the North Dakota Citation Research Aircraft but has been used to process data on many airborne platforms. The software methodology used in ADPAA is provided in the peer-review publication: Delene, D. J., Airborne Data Processing and Analysis Software Package, Earth Science Informatics, 4(1), 29-44, 2011, URL: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s12145-010-0061-4, DOI: 10.1007/s12145-010-0061-4.

mesoFON is an individual-based mangrove forest model, a KiWi extension

mesoFON is an individual-based mangrove forest model. It is a Java implementation of the KiWi model done with RePast Simphony. It contains several new features: (1) You can add up to 10 species via the GUI. However, in principle, the number of species to be included programmatically is unlimited. (2) You can use a variety of growth functions via typing them in as a string on the GUI. (3) The model is transparent, sinc it comes with the Eclipse workbench of RePast.

    Euler Pole Calculator (EPC)

    Euler Pole Calculator (EPC)

A Matlab software to estimate Euler pole parameters

The EPC software calculates velocities for any points located on the earth’s surface given the Euler pole parameters and estimates the Euler pole parameters given the observed velocities of a set of sites located on a tectonic plate. Since version 2, the software is able to estimate or apply the Plate Translation Rates, as well. Please cite one of the following papers when you use the software: - Goudarzi, M A, Cocard, M, and Santerre, R. 2014."EPC: Matlab Software to Estimate Euler Pole Parameters". GPS Solutions 18 (1): 153–62. DOI: 10.1007/s10291-013-0354-4*. - Goudarzi, M A. 2025."Evaluating Euler Pole Parameters for the North American Terrestrial Reference Frame of 2022". Geodesy and Geodynamics. DOI: 10.1016/j.geog.2025.03.004. * The element G_23 of the Jacobian matrix of linearized observations in formula 18 (page 4) in this paper has an incorrect sign (minus sign should be removed). This is discussed in: https://doi.org/10.1007/s10291-025-01932-7.

jif3d is a framework for joint inversion of different types of geophysical data in 3D. It currently comprises forward solvers for first arrival traveltimes, scalar and tensor gravity data, magnetics, magnetotellurics, electrical resistivity tomography and surface waves. The framework is flexible in terms of the coupling approach between the different datasets. At the moment cross-gradient coupling, variation of information and deterministic parameter relationships are implemented. Other coupling approaches can be added relatively easily.

    Raman Data Search and Storage

    Raman Data Search and Storage

A Raman spectra library with search and storage function.

Raman Data Search and Storage (RDSS) software was developed as an analytical tool for a fast and accurate identification of unknown minerals by comparison of their spectra with the indexed library of data. A search function was implemented to enable users to find a specific peak value. Using the asterisk character (*) as a placeholder for one or more unknown peak value(s), the software will return the best match(es). Besides the search utility by the Raman band positions, which was proven to be priceless in the interpretation of Raman spectra, the RDSS software gives the user the ability to display and inspect the Raman spectra quickly and very efficiently. Users can zoom into the Raman spectrum, shift in any direction the wavenumber and the intensity axes, and if any part of the spectral display is clicked, that region will be highlighted and the specific wavenumber returned. A photo for every sample entry stored in the database is also available.

    proex gpr control

Mala ProEx and Easy Locator GPR control software

Reverse engineered communication protocol for the Mala ProEx and Easy Locator GPR implemented as a CLI & GUI running on unix systems. The communication protocol was ported to a graphical user interface applicable to embedded systems through the use of the Qt toolkit (tested on Armadeus Systems APF27 board). The GUI includes GPS datalogging capability assuming a receiver providing NMEA sentences at 4800 bauds is connected to the host computer. Because the software requires access to the raw socket communication, it must be run with administration (root) privileges. A dedicated mode for sensor reading through the wireless GPR link is implemented through 2 separate time-windows, one for subsurface structure analysis and the other for sensor signal recording. The wiki describes the cause of long term drift and hardware modification of the ProEx timing board to try to solve the issue. This software is a contribution to COST action TU1208 Civil Engineering Application of GPR.

    sequoia-dap

SEQUOIA ocean data assimilation platform (a SIROCCO suite tool)

Within the SIROCCO suite of numerical tools, the purpose of SDAP is to provide a flexible platform to carry out multivariate assimilation of geophysical data in a numerical model. The program is multi-grid (finite differences or finite elements), multi-algebra (plug-in analysis kernels), multi-model (simple standardized interface). The program supports reduced-order data assimilation methods, as well as Ensemble assimilation approaches such as the Ensemble Kalman Filter. Recent additions include extensions towards simultaneous assimilation and downscaling (AMICO project), and a toolbox for ensemble assessment (SCRUM project). *Please note that due to frequent updates the code is only available via the svn repository. Please get in touch with us to obtain access.*

    PlaTec

    Plate Tectonics simulator

PlaTec is a 2D terrain generator that uses a simplified model of plate tectonics to produce realistic heightmaps in real time. The simulator starts with a flat fractal map and splits it randomly into plates. Plates are moved around the map. If continents of two plates collide, they fold creating mountain belts. If oceanic crust of one plate collides with another plate, subduction occurs resulting in coastal mountain ranges or island chains. This project is part of my Bachelor of Engineering thesis in Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Helsinki, Finland. The thesis is freely downloadable from http://urn.fi/URN:NBN:fi:amk-201204023993 . A Youtube video showing the simulator in action is available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bi4b45tMEPE .
