Optiq allows you to write database-like queries on any data source. It is not a database; it mediates between data sources, processing resources, and clients, making best use of available resources. Optiq is dynamically extensible. You can add front-ends, such as SQL/JDBC and LINQ, and you can add back-ends such as JDBC databases, HDFS/Hadoop, flat files. You can also add operators and transformation rules.
