XLSX.jl is a Julia package to read and write Excel spreadsheet files. Internally, an Excel XLSX file is just a Zip file with a set of XML files inside. The formats for these XML files are described in the Standard ECMA-376. This package follows the EMCA-376 to parse and generate XLSX files.

Pyspread is a non-traditional spreadsheet application that is based on and written in the programming language Python. The goal of pyspread is to be the most pythonic spreadsheet. Pyspread expects Python expressions in its grid cells, which makes a spreadsheet specific language obsolete. Each cell returns a Python object that can be accessed from other cells. These objects can represent anything including lists or matrices.

BERT is a tool for connecting Excel with the statistics language R. Specifically, it’s designed to support running R functions from Excel spreadsheet cells. In Excel terms, it’s for writing User-Defined Functions (UDFs) in R. All you have to do is write the function.
