PEARL is an abbreviation for "(P)rocess and (E)xperiment (A)utomation (R)ealtime (L)anguage". Makerootfs makes it easy to build a root filesystem for embedded devices (e.g. ARM based) by automating the cross-compiling process through shell scripts, patches and default configs. Unlike buildroot which uses uClibc, makerootfs uses the full glibc.
