    cri-tools

    cri-tools

CLI and validation tools for Kubelet Container Runtime Interface (CRI)

CLI and validation tools for Kubelet Container Runtime Interface (CRI). cri-tools aims to provide a series of debugging and validation tools for Kubelet CRI. It's recommended to use the same cri-tools and Kubernetes minor version, because new features added to the Container Runtime Interface (CRI) may not be fully supported if they diverge. cri-tools follows the Kubernetes release cycles with respect to its minor versions (1.x.y).

    Docker tools

    Docker tools

Useful tools when you are running your project inside docker container

Running a DNS service for docker containers always messes with the DNS settings of your workstation. Especially if these DNS/discovery services themselves run inside docker containers on an active development workstation. Resolving DNS issues is not an easy task. Contrary to that the hosts file is simple. The script first removes all existing entries of all the hostnames of containers created by docker-compose. Configure the environment variables in your .env file. That way it can be used by...

    Robusta

    Kubernetes observability and automation

...Connect your existing Prometheus, gain 360° observability. Robusta is both an automation engine for Kubernetes and a multi-cluster observability platform. Robusta is commonly used alongside Prometheus, but other tools are supported too. By listening to all the events in your cluster, Robusta can tell you why alerts fired, what happened at the same time, and what you can do about it. Robusta can either improve your existing alerts or be used to define new alerts triggered by APIServer changes.

    CRI-O

    CRI-O

Open Container Initiative-based implementation of Kubernetes Container

...This also applies to features that are independent of Kubernetes. Nevertheless, feature backports to supported release branches, which are independent from Kubernetes or other tools like cri-tools, are still possible. This allows CRI-O to decouple from the Kubernetes release cycle and have enough flexibility when it comes to implementing new features. Every feature to be backported will be a case-by-case decision of the community.

    youki

    youki

A container runtime written in Rust

youki is an implementation of the OCI runtime-spec in Rust, similar to runc. Rust is one of the best languages to implement the oci-runtime spec. Many very nice container tools are currently written in Go. However, the container runtime requires the use of system calls, which requires a bit of special handling when implemented in Go. This is too tricky (e.g. namespaces(7), fork(2)); with Rust, it's not that tricky. And, unlike in C, Rust provides the benefit of memory safety. While Rust is not yet a major player in the container field, it has the potential to contribute a lot: something this project attempts to exemplify. youki has the potential to be faster and use less memory than runc, and therefore works in environments with tight memory usage requirements. ...

    cdebug

    cdebug

A swiss army knife of container debugging

A swiss army knife of container debugging. Execute commands or start interactive shells in scratch, slim, or distroless containers, with ease. The cdebug exec command is a crossbreeding of docker exec and kubectl debug commands. You point the tool at a running container, say what toolkit image to use, and it starts a debugging "sidecar" container that feels like a docker exec session to the target container.

    crun

    crun

A fast and lightweight fully featured OCI runtime and C library

A fast and low-memory footprint OCI Container Runtime fully written in C. While most of the tools used in the Linux containers ecosystem are written in Go, I believe C is a better fit for a lower-level tool like container runtime. runc, the most used implementation of the OCI runtime specs written in Go, re-execs itself and uses a module written in C for setting up the environment before the container process starts. crun aims to be also usable as a library that can be easily included in programs without requiring an external process for managing OCI containers.

    MetalLB

    MetalLB

A network load-balancer implementation for Kubernetes

...If you’re not running on a supported IaaS platform (GCP, AWS, Azure…), LoadBalancers will remain in the “pending” state indefinitely when created. Bare-metal cluster operators are left with two lesser tools to bring user traffic into their clusters, “NodePort” and “externalIPs” services. Both of these options have significant downsides for production use, which makes bare-metal clusters second-class citizens in the Kubernetes ecosystem. MetalLB aims to redress this imbalance by offering a network load balancer implementation that integrates with standard network equipment.
