NaSMail is a standards-based webmail package written in PHP. It includes built-in pure PHP support for the IMAP and SMTP protocols, and all pages render in HTML 4.01 with minimal JavaScript and CSS. It has very few requirements and is very easy to configure and install. NaSMail has all the functionality you would want from an email client, including strong MIME support, address books, and folder manipulation.

I spent a long time programming this. It went from a simple encrypted live webchat that I had to add users manually to an invitation only live encrypted webchat.
