Parrot advertises the toy as an advance in gaming because the control devices will project a virtual reality allowing users to play with their physical drone with an enhanced version on their controller where bullets or hot air balloons must be avoided in the virtual world.

    SquawkBox

    An Intuitive, Educational Game System for Parrots

    New in 2012, Squawk Box began as a project to create a video game system and suite for an African Grey Parrot named "Ripley." The software component of the project, hosted here, is written in C, using the SDL, cairo, SDL_image, and SDL_mixer libraries. The Squawk Box controller, still of experimental design, has been built with safety and resiliency in mind, so that test subjects can easily use it without risk of injury to themselves of the controller.
