A Re-implementation of Newcomb's Theory of the Sun
...It was used by the American Ephemeris and the Astronomical Almanac into the 1980's to compute the daily positions of the Sun. This Theory is a semi-analytic model which expresses quantities as a trigonometric series with numerical coefficients. This type of model
produces a compact computer function which has enough accuracy to be useful to most users. My goal is to create a model using C which will reproduce exactly the results published in the Astronomical Almanac for the years 1981, 1982 and 1983.
As of August 2018 Spheral++ has moved to Github -- please see the current repository at
https://github.com/jmikeowen/spheral
We are leaving a frozen version here on SourceForge for historical reasons.
Spheral++ provides a steerable parallel environment for performing coupled hydrodynamical & gravitational numerical simulations. Hydrodynamics and gravity are modelled using particle based methods (SPH and N-Body).
Imagine Numerical Recipes in the 21st century. Fast object-oriented Java code for numerical analysis, with a special focus on astronomical application (coordinate conversions, WCS projections etc.)
A self-sufficient java framework for numerical solution of ODEs (diff eqs) and visualization. Samples are aeronautics/astronautics/physics/rocketry themed. Focus on clean design, modularity, reusability and documentation. Educational project.
