    YARA is a tool aimed at (but not limited to) helping malware researchers to identify and classify malware samples. With YARA you can create descriptions of malware families (or whatever you want to describe) based on textual or binary patterns. Each description, a.k.a rule, consists of a set of strings and a boolean expression which determines its logic. YARA is multi-platform, running on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X, and can be used through its command-line interface or from your own Python scripts with the yara-python extension.     Detekt is a free Python tool that scans your Windows computer (using Yara, Volatility and Winpmem) for traces of malware. Specifically, it can detect the presence of pre-defined patterns which are unique identifiers of commercial surveillance spyware FinFisher FinSpy and HackingTeam RCS. Note however, that Detekt may not be able to detect the most recent versions of those malware families. They may have been updated or have other versions not detected by this tool.
