The National Library of New Zealand's Metadata Extraction Tool automatically extracts preservation-related metadata from digital files, then output that metadata in XML formats. It can be used through a graphical user interface or command-line interface.
Please take the latest code from 'https://github.com/DIA-NZ/Metadata-Extraction-Tool.git'. The code on source forge will not be updated henceforth as it is moved to github.

Open Street Map (OSM) tools, OSM/XML parser, tag extractor
This is going to be a set of tools which is intended to be used with huge OSM files like the planet files in XML format. The parser reads directly from packed *.gz files and it is not needed to unpack the OSM/XML data files to the local disk.
Now in 0.3.0:
osm_tags: tag analyzer (like tag watch)
osm_split: split osm file in single files for nodes, ways and relations and collect some meta information (will be used as input for other tools).

MDExtractor extracts meta information from 1Cv7.MD (1S Enteprise v7) file and stores it in the database. Some ideas has been taken on http://www.mista.ru/ site and from "md2mdb" project.
Danaides stores meta-data from biological banks in a graph databases as well as OBO formatted ontologies.
It also provides a web query interface to parse ontologies or extract nodes based on ontology requirements.
Example: Get all known elements that are in family of Fish (species ontology) AND a RNA (sequence ontology).
