    Joda-Time

    Joda-Time

Replacement for the Java date and time classes prior to Java SE 8

...The design allows for multiple calendar systems, while still providing a simple API. The “default” calendar is the ISO8601 standard which is used by many other standards. The Gregorian, Julian, Buddhist, Coptic, Ethiopic and Islamic calendar systems are also included. Supporting classes include time zone, duration, format and parsing. Joda-Time provides a quality replacement for the Java date and time classes. Joda-Time is the de facto standard date and time library for Java prior to Java SE 8. Users are now asked to migrate to java.time (JSR-310).

    julian-day-calendar-1583

Integer algorithms from J. Scaliger in 1583 for calendar date "math"

Josephus Justus Scaliger created the concept of Julian Day Number (named in honor of his father Julius) because he was a historian interested in resolving historical dates based on different calendars. He brought together several calendars including the Gregorian calendar in 1583 and chose a base date of 4713 BC January 1 from which to number all days. He chose that date as one common to the then common calendars he wanted to reconcile. He also devised an algorithm using integer calculations only to convert a date in the modern Gregorian calendar to a Julian Day Number and back again. ...

A Visual Basic 2008 program for writing Gregorian Chant Notation

I wrote this program for composing simple Gregorian Chants. It currently has support for Punctums, Virgas (left and right), Custos, Clef and you can build up the other common notes as well (Podatus, Clivis, Scandicus, Salicus, Climacus, Torculus, Porrectus, etc) The user interface is very straight forward (just click where you want the note.) Currently only one line can be composed at a time and you must copy and paste the notation into another program if you want to save or print.
