dd_rescue is a generic data copy and transformation tool. It copies data that's only partially readable or overwrites data with random numbers (data protection). It calculates secure hashes via a plugin. Plugins also allow to transform data -- compression and upcoming encryption are supported. myrescue is a program to rescue the still-readable data from a damaged harddisk. It is similiar in purpose to dd_rescue, but it tries to quickly get out of damaged areas to first handle the not yet damaged part of the disk and return later.
