It is not possible to edit the Matrix-1000 on the hardware panel. It was meant as a preset machine - with 800 rom-presets and 200 editable nvram-presets. In fact it is a full featured Oberheim Matrix-6 synth in a 1u rack case. The .syx patch/bank files are compatible but the Matrix-1000 cannot save patch names. That's the only difference. Because of this potential (getting a Matrix-6 out of a Matrix-1000) there are several hardware and software ediors around.
