What is a digital adoption platform and why is it important for today’s digital enterprise?

Digital Adoption Platforms (DAPs) are software platforms that work seamlessly with any enterprise application to simplify the user experience, enhance productivity, and shorten time to proficiency. Over 70% of companies today have a digital transformation strategy in place or are in the process of developing one. An estimated 40% of all technology spending in 2020 went towards digital transformation.

Enterprise applications are a huge part of digital transformation. This could involve implementation of new applications or enhancement and business process changes for existing applications. In either case, one of the main components of success is user adoption. Digital Adoption Platforms have been proven to increase user adoption of applications and can be the final piece of the puzzle for Digital Transformation success.

How has COVID-19 impacted the Digital Transformation Landscape?

The most obvious impact has been the forced move to remote work and the reduction or elimination of business travel. Although some companies had already moved to remote learning and online training, informal coaching and face to face interaction was still an unseen part of corporate onboarding. With employees now isolated, both face to face classroom training and in person, informal coaching are unavailable. Learning in smaller, more digestible portions has become more popular. Solutions that allow users to learn not only self-paced but even just-in-time within the flow of work give companies an advantage.

A second impact has been increased turnover across all industries. While hospitality and service industries have obviously been very hard hit, there has also been increased turnover across the board. Employees have more options as companies adopt standard remote work policies. With increased turnover comes more onboarding requirements. But now onboarding needs to also be done remotely. This can pose quite a challenge for companies unprepared to handle a large influx of remote workers.

How is OnScreen different from other digital adoption platforms?

Most Digital Adoption Platforms (DAPs) were built by and targeted to instructional designers. These tools are often implemented and used by Learning and Development and IT. At OnScreen, we believe the business process experts are most knowledgeable and therefore the most effective at documenting processes.

OnScreen was built from the ground up with simplicity and ease of use in mind. OnScreen users can be effective using our software in less than 30 minutes without days or weeks of training and certification to use the tool. This makes OnScreen unique in the digital adoption space.

If OnScreen is a digital adoption platform focused on business users, how easy is it to set up and get started? Is there significant involvement needed from IT?

We say OnScreen is Simple, Simple, Simple. That means Simple to Use, Simple to Install, Simple to Buy. OnScreen runs as a browser extension which most people can install without IT involvement. No settings are needed on any of the applications since OnScreen interacts only with the browser. Setup takes only a few minutes and OnScreen is so intuitive that any user can be up and running using OnScreen in less than 30 minutes.

Today’s employees use an average of 9 applications per day to do their job. How does OnScreen licensing support the entire digital enterprise?

As I mentioned previously, Simple to Buy means OnScreen licensing is flexible while still being quite easy to understand.Customers purchase OnScreen for a certain quantity of named users.

At OnScreen we do not charge different prices for users that create content versus users that consume content. The customer is free to determine which users will be admins, content creators, or content consumers with no impact to the license cost.

What are the most popular applications for which customers use OnScreen?

Although OnScreen can be used with any application that runs in a browser, our customers tend to use OnScreen for large, enterprise applications. OnScreen’s founding team has a long history of SAP experience. Because of this, OnScreen has quite a few optimizations and enhancements specific to SAP products. Other popular applications for OnScreen customers include Salesforce.com, Workday, SuccessFactors, and Oracle Netsuite.

Where do you see the future of digital adoption platforms?

With the increase in remote work have already seen increased interest by companies in understanding what is influencing productivity and user experience. We expect an enhanced focus on analytics related to the employee experience. Digital Adoption Platforms are able to provide a wealth of data to companies not only about what their employees are doing, but also what influences certain behaviors and what drives desired outcomes. OnScreen is well positioned to support this trend as data collection and analytics has always been an integral part of our solution.
