Q: Can you please share with us a brief overview of your company? What specific gap in the market does Modern Requirements4DevOps address?
Modern Requirements was established over 15 years ago by Asif Sharif, who recognized a gap in the common understanding of requirements among various stakeholders across projects. Simply put, a requirement is a capability to which a project outcome (product or service) should conform. Using Modern Requirements software helps our clients streamline the continuous process of documenting, analyzing, tracing, prioritizing and agreeing on requirements, and then communicating this information to the project’s stakeholders.
We currently have our third-generation requirements management platform, called Modern Requirements4DevOps, or MR4DevOps. This is an enterprise Requirements Management solution built on and for Azure DevOps, and it’s become an industry staple for those using Microsoft’s leading ALM platform.
Q: What industries do you serve?
We serve many Fortune 1000 companies across various sectors, including finance, product engineering, services, and government organizations. We also many clients in other sectors small and medium size organizations.
Q: What are the main reasons a company might look to use Modern Requirements4DevOps for requirements management? What are its key features and capabilities?
Requirements management is crucial for project success. MR4DevOps is an enterprise-scale comprehensive suite of requirements management and compliance systems. It’s built on and for Azure DevOps, a Microsoft product, which makes it great for companies already integrated with other Microsoft DevOps ecosystem. With integration in the user interface, user/right management, MR4DevOps inherits the process template from Azure DevOps, and also uses Azure DevOps’ data repository as the single source of truth.
Additionally, our “Smart Docs” capability bridges the gap between work items and document management by letting you build fully versioned documents and link requirements, or author new ones – providing the best of both worlds.

Q: What opportunities and challenges do you see in the industry regarding requirements management?
One of the biggest challenges most organizations have is having distributed and fragmented data. MR4DevOps brings all the requirements and compliance data under one roof, Azure DevOps.
Another big challenge most organizations face is having end-to-end traceability, or the chain of all process. With MR4DevOps, our clients get a single source of “truth” in a commented knowledge base, giving them full traceability, end-to-end, which is crucial in compliance and risk management. Clients are able to visualize traceability, impact assessment, and automatically create suspect links.
A final but significant challenge is rework. MR4DevOps allows requirements reuse, including branch and merging, via the enterprise library. This allows the users to build requirements efficiently and consistently by importing existing artifacts from the library or from other projects, maximining productivity and consistency.
Q: Are there any other tools that exist for requirements management on Microsoft Azure DevOps? What are the main reasons for selecting Modern Requirements4DevOps over other requirements management tools?
MR4DevOps is a comprehensive and easy to use solution for requirements management. It’s built on and for Microsoft Azure DevOps as a fully integrated solution. When organizations are using Azure DevOps and try to implement another requirement management solutions, they end up disconnecting the information chain. With MR4DevOps, our clients get Azure DevOps to be the single source of truth.
Q: As Agile becomes increasingly popular, how does Modern Requirements4DevOps configure their solution for this methodology?
Since Agile is always in a state of change, it’s important to be able to interact with information efficiently. MR4DevOps allows its users to organize project information within Smart Docs, ensuring that communication is optimized for authors, collaborators, and consumers of the information. This bridges the gap between document and work items management.
Additionally, a picture is worth a thousand words. In many Agile projects, people create process maps and mock-ups to efficiently communicate with project stakeholders – however these are often done in another tool outside of Azure DevOps. MR4DevOps brings together diagramming and wireframing directly with Azure DevOps to streamline this process.

Q: Can you provide some sample use cases for Modern Requirements4DevOps?
The top three use cases for MR4DevOps are requirements management for line of business applications; requirements and compliance for medical device and product engineering solutions; and RFP management.
Q: Looking into the future, what are some trends and/or technologies you see on the rise in the requirements management space and how is Modern Requirements4DevOps meeting these?
Certainly, over the last few years, the challenge was to build solutions that support Agile, structured, and hybrid processes in highly configurable ways. Modern Requirements continues to improve on solutions to further collaboration and build intelligent systems using artificial intelligent tools and techniques.
