Digital transformation in simple terms refers to the use of digital technologies to transform the way your business works in order to compete in today’s fast changing world. Speed is essential, because if you do not innovate fast enough, you will fall behind your competitors and risk will become obsolete.
The world now revolves around software and apps. Can packaged or hosted software meet your needs? Is your business the same as everyone else’s? Of course not. Hence, this means that you will likely require software customized to suit your business needs. Continuous change is also crucial to adapt to the latest changing market conditions and therefore you will need some scale of app development. With the inherent technical challenges in app development and the lack of available technical resources, how is this possible?
Here is where the Joget no-code/low-code platform comes in to help facilitate the development and transformation of organizations. Below is a Q&A session with the Joget team about the Joget platform and how Joget has helped various organizations in their innovation journey across the globe.

Q: Can you give us a brief overview of the company?
A: Joget, Inc. is the developer and manager of the Joget DX commercial open source project, a no-code/low-code web platform that modernizes application development and workflow automation on the cloud and mobile.
In the beginning, Joget DX started out as Joget Workflow, an open source hybrid workflow engine with simple drag-and-drop form building capabilities in 2009. Soon after, Joget’s users and customers started to request for more comprehensive app development capabilities with easy-to-use “builder” tools. Recognizing the needs of these users and customers, what Gartner had called “Citizen Developers” in 2012, Joget decidedly adopted the mantra “Codeless or Code Less” as the guiding vision in developing the Joget platform.
In that same year, a brand new version was released that catered to non-coders to easily build apps or automate workflows all using a drag-and-drop, configurable approach to app development; and at the same time catered to coders, who may want to integrate with other systems or extend the platform with new custom features.
In 2014, Forrester published a paper that recognized a new segment in the web app development space and coined the term “low-code platform”, which evolved in the last couple of years into a “no-code/low-code” platform space. Joget has been a pioneer in this space with our “Codeless or Code Less” approach to web application development and process automation for the coders as well as non-coders.
Today, Joget DX has acquired many Tier 1 customers ranging from aircraft manufacturers, healthcare equipment manufacturers and providers; telecommunications equipment manufacturers and telcos as well as many government ministries and authorities from various parts of the world. From Workflow to Digital Transformation (DX), the product name change reflects the complete digital transformation capabilities offered by the platform. With downloads in more than 150+ countries and 12,000+ community users worldwide across various industries, Joget is a proven platform for a wide spectrum of organizations ranging from Fortune 500 companies to government agencies and small businesses.
Q: What exactly is the Joget no-code/low-code platform?
A: Joget is an open source no-code/low-code application platform for faster, simpler digital transformation. It combines the best of business process automation, workflow management and rapid application development in a simple, flexible and open platform. Visual and web-based, it empowers non-coders to instantly build and maintain apps anytime, anywhere.
Non-coders can easily create their own business applications simply by using a drag-and-drop approach without the need to code, while power users are able to supplement their apps with low-code by adding a little scripting or coding, catering to different business requirements.
For even more complex requirements, Joget supports pro-code to extend the functionality of the platform via plugins. In this case, pro-code refers to the classic full-code programming that software engineers use to develop software.
Q: Why do we need to go digital using low-code?
A: According to Forrester’s Q1 2020 Digital Process Automation Survey, over 70% of organizations have paper-based process dependencies. In other words, many companies are still struggling to deal with hundreds to thousands of data entries and paper processes manually each day. This has resulted in decreased productivity, higher expenses spent on buying papers and printers, time wasted to search for a document and eventually miscommunication might even occur.
As such, here is where low-code steps in to help organizations to digitize their paper processes and business operations in a much effective and efficient way. Gartner predicts that by 2024, low-code application development will be responsible for more than 65% of application development activity. With the use of low-code in your business operations, you are able to easily transform all paper forms into a digital form and create enterprise applications in minutes, at the same time customizing anything you want to meet the market demands and achieve a higher customer satisfaction rate.

Q: What industries do you serve?
A: We have more than 3,000 installations, 400+ enterprise customers and 12,000 community users worldwide across various industries including government, finance, manufacturing, information technology, education, construction and more. Our users range from Fortune 500 companies to government agencies and small businesses.
Q: Can you elaborate more on the apps/solutions that they have created using Joget?
A: One of our clients who is from the computer networking industry with more than 10,000 employees, uses the Joget platform to build 1000+ screens and 100+ workflows in 24 weeks with a team member of 5.
Another client, one of the top insurers in the world with its headquarters in Europe, has managed to leverage the Automated Order Joget Approval System with e-signatures and touchless approvals to eliminate their paper processes by 60% and accelerate the approval process by 45%. The combination of alerts, digital signatures, PDF reader and write plugins made the entire process seamless and the manual effort has also been replaced with the automated approval process through email responses, using the Joget platform.
What’s more? One of our clients with more than 500 employees, who is a manufacturer of heavy equipment, is able to better secure their assets as they can now monitor and keep track of their stock availability, quantity, status and locations at all times with the Consumable Goods App built using the Joget platform. They are able to replenish stocks on time by issuing a purchase requisition in advance whenever the stock level is low, thanks to the email notification reminder.
We have another client providing security services that has managed to make use of the Enhanced Customer Engagement & Supply Chain Security App built using the Joget platform, to reduce their data inefficiencies by 60% and automate the end-to-end data intake processes. They are able to enhance their security with features such as the authenticated user view, critical alert display and integration with GPS devices. The self-service feature of the app has also empowered the client to create vehicle trips without any dependencies. Its visibility is highly increased as trips can be viewed in real time with transmission of meaningful data points.
In addition to that, our client who is from the telecommunications industry with more than 1700 employees, has managed to leverage the Digital Suite App built using the Joget platform to keep track of their previous work history and digitize all tasks between the front and back office. Upon implementing the app in its business operation, they achieved a better sales conversion ratio. The client is also able to resolve their initial problem of spending tremendous time to prepare reports with the use of an online report being automatically updated every 15 minutes.
Q: What are the biggest challenges from your clients when it comes to application development? And how did Joget help to overcome those challenges?
A: The major challenges would be the lack of time, flexibility, resources and costs. As some companies still rely on paper and manual processes, they often have no idea on where to start with when it comes to digital transformation.
They often have to deal with the constraints of having not enough experience and resources in their application development initiatives, which eventually resulted in spending longer time, extra effort and higher costs to develop their enterprise applications using the traditional methods.
With that being said, this is why the Joget no-code/low-code platform is here to help the organizations to resolve their enterprise problems and go from ideation to reality. Joget enables businesses to innovate, automate and accelerate their application development journey with the use of drag-and-drop, customization and flexibility in a faster delivery time to market.
Upon implementing Joget in its business operations, our clients are able to constantly keep track, measure and monitor their work progress remotely anytime and anywhere, from both desktops and mobile devices. They can now better make use of their resources elsewhere with a higher working productivity and a lower cost of ownership. In addition to that, with the Joget Progressive Web Apps (PWA) feature, our clients can also set up reminders via emails or push notifications to meet the deadlines for each task assigned. This helps to save a lot of time as they can focus on the prioritized tasks with the closest due date.

Q: Can you share with us some of the capabilities of Joget DX?
A: As we mentioned earlier, Joget DX is the next generation successor to Joget Workflow. Hence from Workflow to Digital Transformation (DX), the product name change indicates the complete digital transformation capabilities offered by the platform.
