Why enable two-step verification?
Two-step verification adds an extra layer of protection by requiring both your password and a secondary code (an OTP or SMS code). Even if your password is compromised, an attacker cannot sign in without that second code. You’ll also receive notifications on your device when verification activity occurs, so you can spot and respond to unauthorized attempts.
Getting started — quick setup
- Create an account using your email address and choose a secure password.
- Add an account entry inside the app for each service you want to protect.
- When prompted, scan a QR code or enter the service’s secret to generate one-time codes.
- Store backup codes or enable the app’s recovery options so you can regain access if you lose your device.
How the one-time codes work
After you link an account, the app produces time-based one-time passwords (TOTP) that refresh periodically. Depending on the service, codes may also be delivered via SMS as a fallback. You can save backup codes or export recovery links so you’re not locked out — the app will notify you if recovery is available or if unusual access is detected.
