  • Followup: RE: sync.ffs_db

You can ignore this warning safely. I've rephrased the text for the next version to make it sound less intimidating.

  • Followup: RE: Can I Do a Three-Way Sync?

Hi Peter, I assume you used "two-way sync" before but are now using "automatic mode", correct? Automatic mode detects any changes and mirrors them to the other side. This means if you copy an old file to one sync-dir this file is mirrored to the other side, even though it overwrites a newer one. Regards, ZenJu.

  • Comment: remove duplicates

If it's not functionality to "find duplicates by content only" but simply by "name and content" or only "by name", then what functionality are you currently missing? A comparison by content is already possible as well as (manual) deletion from one side only.

  • Comment: remove duplicates

Well, this is going to be difficult. Not from a technical perspective, but from a usability point of view: Currently FreeFileSync's main grid offers a hierarchical display of two directory structures. "Finding duplicates" is a mode that is not compatible to such a view in many aspects. I don't see how this could be smoothly integrated without degrading overall user-experience for...

  • Followup: RE: Can I Do a Three-Way Sync?

    > Is there any way to set up a three-way sync that deletes files properly? This usecase is explicitly supported (since v3.1) and should already work like you expect it to! >but then the sync between B and C will restore the file to C Are you sure, you also use mode to sync b and c? It should delete the file from b.

  • Comment: Vista Documents and 'Error Code 5'

These directories (actually they are just junctions) are not meant to be used directly, see here: http://www.jimmah.com/vista/Security/junctions.aspx So go directly to the directories containing the data, and use them as data source.

  • Comment: Synchronizing encrypted files to FAT32

Creating a custom copy routine is not a good idea, considering: symbolic links, ntfs permissions and security attributes, junctions, file attributes and alternate data streams: All this is handled by the native Windows API. But we don't need this anyway: I've added a simple option to allow copying to non-encrypted target drives to the windows API. Available for v3.2.

  • Comment: Adding Check Boxes for source/target pairs

You can save multiple sync-configurations that have different "views" or have one default-view and then remove the non-needed pairs. This should pretty much cover this usecase without the need of additional checkboxes.

  • Comment: ubuntu download version - missing file?

The file comes with the sourcecode. "unbuntu*-zip" is just the precompiled version coming directly with the binaries.
