Do I understand correctly that the exactly same error happens with both 2009.2.0.4461 and .7 ?
9.9 G should be enough to stitch 8 TIFF files to a 12724x5785 panorama, and an out of disk space error would not occur right on the first image. Are you running Hugin with admin privileges? if not, can you try?
also check if there are special characters...

can you provide more detail, please? what version of Hugin are you using? on what version of Windows? How much free disk space do you have?
