This is a problem with the version of Perl that is used in that version of POPFile.
You can get the same sort of output from a simple Perl script which accesses a webpage, as discussed in Ticket 45 on our website ( http://getpopfile.org/ticket/45 )
This Perl problem was fixed a few days ago when ActivePerl 5.8.9 Build 826 was released (25 May 2009) therefore the next release of POPFile...

You will probably get a faster response if you ask your question in the project's "new" forums at http://getpopfile.org/discussion.

Just to clarify things: when I said "using "Run as administrator" to start it" I meant right-clicking the installer's icon and then selecting "Run as administrator" from the menu.

The Windows installer should work from a standard account as well as an administrator account.
If run from a standard account you should get the UAC prompt asking for the administrator password. If run from an administrator account you should see the UAC warning about an unidentified program (because the installer is not digitally signed).
How did you run the installer: double-clicking the...

>> it is not clear that the calculation is done as is described by Naoki <<
Naoki is one of the POPFile developers so I reckon he knows what he's talking about.
Are you looking at the _current_ code?
The current code is _not_ on SourceForge, it is at the new site (http://getpopfile.org).
POPFile 1.1.0 is the current release and you can browse the source for the POPFile...

I suspect you can use multiple tabs but it seemed safer to suggest using a single one as that is what works for me. I am sure I've used multiple tabs on other versions of Windows but on Vista my HOSTS file only seems to have single tabs or multiple spaces.
Surely Microsoft are not...

Delighted to hear that you've fixed the problem. It is a pity that there is so little documentation about that file - I only found the problem with mixing tabs and spaces by accident!
