I have to revert to GEdit for now, as Scribes frequently hangs (Ubuntu 7.04 pre-release), often when saving files.
If it is not a problem you are aware of, I will later (after Ubuntu 7.04 is released) try to help you get the problem solved, as I'm quite fluent in PyGTK programming and had a few closer looks at the Scribes code.

I downloaded the template package and started using the Python template. My problem is that those templates insert tabs while I prefer spaces. I had to re-export, convert-tab-to-space, and re-import the templates to use them in my setting.

Scribes 0.3.2 on Ubuntu 7.04
- Start scribes
- Enter a few words like "That's my text"
- Have the intention to automatically change it all to uppercase, like "THAT'S MY TEXT"
- Select the whole text using Ctrl-A
- Open the context menu (right-click on the selection)
- Choose "Case"
Result:
- All MenuItems (Uppercase, Lowercase, ...) are disabled

System: Ubuntu 7.04 (i686-generic) kept current
A few minutes ago, I installed Scribes using:
$ ./configure --prefix=/home/fr/Downloads/scribes-install
$ make
$ sudo make install # sudo because of scrollkeeper
Steps to reproduce and description of the problem:
