Forward Seach fails after latex error detected

Occassionally following a compilation in which an error is detected in the latex text, recompiling produces a dialog box saying that forward search has failed. Output Profile is Latex to PDF. TexShop seems to corrupt source file

While using TexShop on one particular file, it seemed to corrupt the file claiming that at the line \begin{document}, had an unnormal end of file. Deleting and retyping \begin{document} did not seem to help. However, I loaded the file into TexMaker. It had the same complaint about the file until I deleted and retyped \begin{equation}. I then tried to use the file with TexShop. Everything...
