Thanx for opening my eyes to what the error log was trying to tell me :)
I've checked all the lists in /var/cache/iplist and there are no entries with that malformed pattern.
HOWEVER, I did happen to log out and log in (prior to your reply) and went through the start ipblock, update lists and enable sequence, and this time it worked fine. Looks like it was a transient glitch...
