So, I uninstalled FFScroll and tested my wife's laptop off and on for a day, and sure enough, the mouse cursor never sticks when using the trackpad. Also, I noticed that while there were the odd trackpad button clicks that didn't register while FFScroll was installed, all such trackpad button clicks register perfectly without FFScrol installed.
